Simon came off as someone I could've genuinely hated from the first story for how bluntly disrespectful he was being but here is where I think we see the human in that old man. He might've thought of the boy's mom in this moment & felt like he was disrespecting her memory & thus walked away when the temptation was basically after him. He stuck to his morals I guess. I respect that & I can accept that.
Honestly, Simon & AJ, would be adorable to see. I saw a genuine romantic couple thing growing from their slight interactions. Especially they way Simon started treating her more gentle like.

Simon being a complete dick to both Fluttershy and AJ was quite intentional, as I'm heartily sick of reading stories on this site where Humans are automatically batshit crazy over ponies from the moment they lay eyes on them. In my view, our actual reactions to talking, sapient equines would be far, FAR different given our history of meeting other races, let alone if we were to meet extraterrestrials.
In all of my stories, even the ones that are 90% fap material, I always try to inject some actual conflict and dialogue. Sometimes I favor the slow burn, and sometimes I jump right into the "action." Still, I usually want to have something else interesting going on in the background that's simmering, some nuance that not every reader always catches. For example, as you can see from this chapter, the youngest son is playing a game with his family to try and keep the mare for himself. He knows his older brother already had a tryst with Fluttershy (but he's NOT aware she came back once more). so he's conniving to keep his Dad out of the running as well.
BUT...he doesn't know about Applejack's stubborn nature...nor the fact she usually gets whatever she wants...

Also damn, I didn't have Jackson plotting this whole time on AJ in my mind AT ALL. Genuinely thought Marcus was gonna be the absolute houndog of this story considering how quick he was eager to ablige AJ after her little walk off. Nevermind him having just had a interesting meet up with Fluttershy. TWICE no less!

Jackson has been playing the long con ever since he first laid eyes on Fluttershy. He was genuinely repulsed by the thought of the aliens when he first heard about them, but seeing his first one up close quickly changed his mind! And yes, he's the younger of the two brothers.
I've given some brief insights into this family dynamic, and I'll delve slightly more into the specific feelings the brothers have toward each other, but only so far as the story takes it. Ultimately, readers don't tune in for Earth family drama, they want to see unspeakable things being done to willing mares! And O man, do I plan to deliver!
Look for a few surprise guests as well as some plot (pun CLEARLY intended) twists, for, in the words of The Lord of Chaos:
