Mmm...never actually got into Equestria Girls, though I do appreciate the Shimmer-and-Dazzle-centric fan work that's come out of it.
When it comes to my own fics, though, I usually stick with pony (or anthro) in a "Seasons 1-4" setting. (Though I might borrow a bit from later seasons here and there.)
