It's very similar to the movie Ghost. Maybe we can have Sunset Shimmer mess with them as a ghost and show them what has happened to her because of their actions. They kinda deserve a scare and then our protagonist can find her body and show it to the police and link the rainboooms to the crime since they all planned her murder

Not really gonna be all that hard to figure out the "Mystery."
Gilda carved "Anon-A-Miss" on Sunset's stomache. That'll narrow the investigation down to the students of CHS since Anon-A-Miss only targeted the Teens at CHS.
And since they're getting her body autopsied, the police will know how and when Sunset died. (Which'll screw The Crusaders over since they've probably been posting shit days/weeks after Sunset's death before calling it quits. Hell, they could've probably posted something while Gilda and her goons where torturing/killing Sunset.)
All they gotta do is inform Mystable about the death and how it's linked to the Mystable user "Anon-A-Miss" to get Mystable to release whatever info they have on Anon-A-Miss, the police'll come up to Anon-A-Miss's places of residence, interrogate/interview them, then arrest the account creator(s).
Along with this, they can also go to the school, inform Principle Celestia on why they're there, getting her to share as much info on Sunset as she can (Minus everything she knows about magic and "Pony World." Otherwise, she'd be put in the Loony Bin.), interview her along with the other staff and students until they either find those involved with her death or until the perpetrators willingly turn themselves in. (Dash for helping in setting Sunset up for Gilda's trap, and Gilda and her cronies for killing her.)
So yeah, it's not a hard mystery. It's just time consuming.
