Now that Trixie’s marefriend, Starlight Glimmer, has also become her assistant, she is eager to show her just how thrilling life on the stage can be. Of course, she does have to go easy on the poor girl, so a small town where nopony should know of her that well should do nicely. There’s no way the ponies of Ponyville, a town surely so boring to have such a dull name, wouldn’t appreciate a lovely magic show from the Great and Powerful Trixie and her lovely assistant, right?

My entry for the StarTrixMaud Contest (StarTrix Category)

AU version of Boast Busters, where Starlight is Trixie's assistant at the time.

Thank you for the entry! Added it to the folders

This is a very nice story.

It's pretty interesting alternative version of that episode and touching story at places. I would love read more about how Trixie and Starlight met or maybe a sequel set after the events of this story.

The only thing I would point out at the moment is that I feel that Twilight behaved a bit too much like a Fluttershy at the end there.

Yeah, I suppose I should note than in this AU, Twilight was never Celestia’s personal student and Spike isn’t her assistant. I wanted to implement that somewhere, but couldn’t figure out how to do it naturally.

Ah, okay. I thought that except for Starlight and Trixie, the rest of the show happened in this fanfic's backstory exactly the same.

“Oh? Does Trixie hear some neigh-sayers in the audience?!”

hehe, a pun that can only work in the written medium, very nice

‘Great, it’s one of those’, Starlight thought as her stomach churned at her marefriend being caught up with this fool, ‘Not just a heckler, but somepony who tries to steal the show for themselves!’

ah, love this reversal of the canon episode's viewpoint!

The previously confident showmare was blindsided by the ungodly arrogance and disrespect of the townspony, though seeing a blaze in the corner of her eye, her gaze quickly turned to her seething assistant, who’s expression showed nothing but murderous intent and horn sparking with its usual teal colour and sputtering a crimson red smoke that had only bad memories associated with it.

great callback to All Bottled Up, guess Starlight and Trixie must have gone through a similar episode earlier in their relationship. and great depiction of how aggravating and rude the Mane Six were acting in Boast Busters when seen from Trixie's viewpoint, who has never done and will continue to never do anything wrong

“Starlight, no...” Trixie whispered to her assistant while looking so imploringly at her, her amethyst eyes that usually held an enchanting pride and panache now only saying, ‘You’ve gone too far...’ A few moments were spent staring at her before the furious mare looked back to the crowd she was meant to entertain, finding only horrified and scared looks on their faces.

oof! Starlight, in her rage, was willing to destroy the world in canon. without having learned the same lessons, and having a marefriend to protect, who knows how far she'll go? too far, in this case

Starlight gave her partner a very forced smile, which was clearly caught before the sapphire unicorn rolled her eyes and acquiesced, asking the foals, “So, what do you so desperately wish from Trixie that you ignore her boundaries?”

loved the addition of Starlight to this scene, and her perspective on it. this is a very rude town, even the fans!

And just when the bear’s paw was about to crush their home into a pile of splinters and shattered dreams, a deafening voice shouted, “ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!”

ah, the one thing i could anticipate from Starlight being present for this episode's events! very nice to see

“Th-that’s, uh, why I d-didn’t like them picking on you, b-because you’re really good and nice a-and... stuff...”

and this is a fun reversal of Trixie's confession in No Second Prances

it's very interesting! Starlight showing up in this S1 episode makes it a lot darker and more violent in resolution, which was jarring, but also thematic, since the later seasons of the show were much more cynical and violent than anyone who watched the cute little slice-of-life episodes of S1 would have dreamed of the show becoming. dropping into the early canon this insanely powerful magic user who has none of Twilight's insecurities or interest in maintaining the current order and peace is just as jarring as solving the Ursa Minor problem by blasting it to death. and it's interesting that this Twilight is different as well, almost the version of herself that the canon Trixie would like her to be. all this agency on Trixie's side naturally makes her and Starlight the protagonists, ready to tackle a wider world than the goings-on of some one-horse town full of rude ponies. a fun reimagining!
