In an Equestria filled with various different types of creatures, Lightning Dust never quite fit in, in a number of ways, not the least of which was the flight suit for her position in the Wonderbolt cadets was only made with other species in mind. She goes to a seamstress to get it fixed, but all the questions she has to answer there gets her one in response, one that she doesn’t know the answer to.

I'm not really a Lightning Dust fan, but this is pretty impressive. Using Dust's brash and headstrong nature and incorporating that by making her a dragon was clever. I'm not sure I get why Rarity primarily makes lingerie, or how that ties into her being a bat pony, but I still like it. Good luck in the contest.

I assume its the reflection of Lightning Dust, that despite receiving species based bigotry that focus on the negatives associated with her kind, she'll continue headstrong with her dream. Unlike Rarity who has relented somewhat and shifted from her dream (to make fine fashion wear) and into making lingerie and bdsm gear. As for WHY she makes Lingerie? Well besides the fact it probably sells well irrespective of the salesmans species (sex clothing being "naughty' enough that casual social norms are thrown out the window), there's something amusing about the link between Bat Ponies->Vampires->Frilly Sexy Clothes/Edgy Bondage gear
I really do like how this fic isn't black and white though, everything's a little off tempo in any solution raised, reflecting a real world sensibility. I could easily see another fic where Rarity immediately inspires Dust to leave and that gumption inspires her to ditch Lingiere, but they both realise that (flaws and all) they live in reality and that's what they've got to work with

I want to see a sequel to this now. I want to see Lighting Dust get her dream, and Rarity break out of the mold she is stuck in.
Perhaps Fluttershy could make a apperance as Rares best friend, a much more aggressive version of herself, working almost exclusively with nighttime critters and monsters?

I thought about that, but the flaps of her wings would move her up and down a bit and throw off her measurements. I know the how itself never really has that, but it seemed an obvious conclusion to me. Maybe I can add a comment in the story about that if others also get confused by that.

I gotta say, I’m surprised by the very positive reception of this story, as I felt as though it didn’t have too much direction to it, with the only real part of that being Rarity asking Dust about possibly making a new team.
I didn’t really have a plan to make something else off of this, but I did have some notes brainstormed that I could make into a sequel or continuation of sorts if enough people want it. Most of those ideas are what creatures some other ponies might be in this world and how that affects them, with Fluttershy specifically being a Kirin (and I suppose the idea of her being more aggressive could be worked into her Nirik form...).

She’s a Hippogryph, which is a similar to a Gryphon, but with the back half being Pony rather that feline.
You can find images of them on Derpibooru, as they are canon to the show, but they also seem to have some weird mer-pony form that I’m omitting from this AU.
