an alternate name for Lightning Dust to differentiate her from the Washout reject? Well, shes a shadowbolt.. so why not; Blazing Gale? or Simply Blaze
Barren Wasteland? All I can think about besides the Badlands and the snowy Frozen North, is the Bone Dry Desert which appeared in the movie. Though, there's also the San Palomino Desert.
Those are the only wasteland-like areas that I could figure out...

Those are some good ideas.
10464326
I definitely like the second, but the first might be my favorite.

I would normally agree with you that Lightning should get a name change, however, the Lightning Dust of Duskfall's world only appears during the Washouts episode. I don't think this Lightning would be thrilled to give up her name for no legitimate reason. Of course, this is subject to change depending if Rainbow's Enemy Lightning decides to track down her mysterious new 'sister' and end up sticking around Ponyville.
This whole thing is moot if they kill each other tho. One Lightning to rule them all...
10464703
Oh. THAT wasteland... Well, I look forward to seeing what happens there. Willing to give a little spoiler for me?
10464702
Really? How come?
10464708
A pair of mysterious figures will appear. One is gonna be there for Starlight and the other for Duskfall.
10464709
The location of the triangle. Actually a little indecisive as to which I like better.
10464710
Interesting.
10464711
Since Duskfall's Cutie Mark doesn't have the red jagged lines, I felt the Primrose Triangle filled the null space nicely. Maybe this is just my OCD talking, but having some of the triangle sticking out of the Heartless symbol bothers me in some ill-defined way.
Lighting Crust the FASTEST half ling in the sack!
10464715
Jagged lines or not, It's still a great cutie mark choice.
10464717
If that joke is as filthy as I think it is...

Of course, given everything I've written here and in The Road To Healing, I'm not exactly in a position to talk...
10464720
Thank you!
Somehow I wonder... What if Dusk visited Canon Timeline? either the normal timeline at the moment she left after Starlight, or the moment at the end with Celestia and Luna retired.
Not sure if she could be happy or get more depressed
Good chapter, though kinda wish she had layed into the 3 abit !ore. Though think that's more my irritation at the writers choices.
The next one should be interesting, I wonder if you will go with world ending magic war i.e fallout Equestria esk. Or Nightmare Celestia\ Daybreaker.
There's no, I dunno, "Holy" or "Light" magic to counter Darkness? Interesting.
10464785
Honestly, I'm curious too. What would Duskfall think of Twilight taking over Celestia's and Luna's duties? "Great job, Sunbutt - you made yet another Twilight do something she did not want to do, for your own benefit. Buck you to Hell!"
10464793
Before Creation, there was simply Darkness. All else came afterwards. True, Light is often considered the counter of Darkness, but it is an imperfect counter. It takes effort and energy for Light to stave off Darkness. Darkness takes all simply by existing. Ultimately, the Light will always burn itself out, but Darkness is eternal. That's why I will always maintain in my baseline stories that unlike the other Concepts/Powers like Order and Chaos that are balanced between each other in some way, Darkness is truly superior to Light.
As for Holy, that isn't even a Power. That's just God's Will made manifest and thus not in the discussion when talking about the Powers.
10464785
If Duskfall showed up during 'The Last Problem' or during Twilight's coronation as sole ruler, she would be livid and then very, very depressed.
10464788
I agree with you that I wish Duskfall could have gone after the 3 a bit more, but as I've hopefully demonstrated, Duskfall is emotionally exhausted. All she wants right now is to go home, pull all her friends into an impossible Pinkie Hug, and sleep for a week. She just can't muster the energy to yell at them like the deserve.
As for the reason this world went to shit...
10464805
That is almost exactly what Duskfall's incoherent screaming in rage would translate to.
im waiting for the entity that is sendid dusk to show up and act all high and benevolet just for dusk to beat the crap out of it
So did ended with 2 speech’s like I was guessing, Definitely adds to the story.
Poor Dusk though, she been going on clean up duty for about half a year now? Easy to forget that she been through a lot on the start of this journey. 1 relaxing start with NMM, Sombra turns it around into several months with war, Chrysails battle (still a war but only 1 battle compared to Sombra), to the pain of her guilty for being the cause of 2 deaths, and the climax. Good lord need to recap total time she was gone once she gets home.
Sure a lot of people would be past the breaking point with all this. Specially since she realizes she being used.
I have read your other story “the road to healing” but curious about something. It’s great to understand how she thinks when she was off in her own world.
Does she see that timeframe as like being away for a few months even though it been years? I knows how long she was crazy for just curious if she see’s it as a “vacation” that just flew by before every thing went back to normality...ish In her own head.
Think it’s mostly to understand her some more is why I’m asking.
Also think I need reread this story. Completely forgot about Lyra and Bonnie trying to date dusk.....So much has happen I’m not sure what I’m missing now (read “the Alicorn returns” chapter to see a possible answer to my question)
10464912
Duskfall is aware that her 'vacation' took 350 years. It didn't pass in a feverish haze or something like that. As much as she likes to pretend it felt like only a few months, those centuries weigh heavily on her mind in clear detail.
The trick to remember with Duskfall and being past breaking point? She went past breaking point a long time ago. Alicorn of Insanity, remember? If this were just after Duskfall first broke, she would love the feelings of futility and despair and fury this cleanup detail is causing her. But she's grown older, arguably wiser. As I noted when this whole mess started, Duskfall owns her Insanity now, not the other way around. So really, she has the worse of both worlds. The strain of trying to think and behave like a sane person while her entire existence is warped by her Insanity.
It's an odd sort of symbiotic relationship, almost. While Duskfall presents a face of a somewhat normal Alicorn, just beneath those thoughts are her roiling Insanity she can indulge in. It's hard to explain to someone who isn't also insane, but dipping into her Insanity keeps her mask of sanity from shattering, if that makes sense?
I have plans for when Lyra, Bonnie, and Duskfall finally have a chance to sit down for a real talk. :D
10464870
No, what comes to speak with Duskfall is way, way, waaaaaay out of her league. If Duskfall tried to pick a fight, the entity would squish her with less effort than it takes you to blink your eye. While Duskfall seems powerful, and she is by most standards, she is still only a goddess who has not even fully awakened to her goddesshood. As I've mentioned a few times in both books, there's always a bigger fish and Duskfall is about to meet one of the biggest.
I can’t help but wonder if we will see littlepip or any other fallout equestria characters. That if that is the direction you are going in.
Either way excellent chapter and keep up the great work.

Sometimes a barren wasteland is only ever a barren wasteland.
Yeah hard to imagine what she went through. We can make speculations all day but, we won’t truly knew till we past that point ourself and if we even return ourself to tell about it.
Will say the other story I really don’t want to read it....it’s sad seeing her self destructive personality trying to fill a hole that won’t fill for her failure. Don’t get me wrong it’s not bad just not what I prefer....and another chapter came out today....I’m going have to read it sometime soon....
It’s good seeing what she can do and survive...just how she discovered them is what’s concerning (reason she was banished I know)
Now i'm curious what kind of story your going to tell here before we return to Equestra Prime (sorry couldn't find any other way to say "the original Equestria") i'm looking forward to your next chapter or chapters about this Equstria
10465152
Only a single chapter. This is just a temporary rest stop before Duskfall and crew are finally sent back to Equestria 'Prime'. There's something that wants a word with Duskfall before she gets sent home and someone who needs to talk with Starlight. Not sure how long the chapter is gonna be, depends on how wordy that someone decides to be and how much Starlight wants to backtalk.
10465182
Awesome i look forward to it
10464810
I suddenly have the image of her appearing just in the middle of the big final battle and stop everyone using magic, after she listen the reasons of what happened, she decide to leave alone the topic of "Celestia and Luna retire" or "Twilight as only princess leaving Ponyville" or even "Three ex-villains overpowered and going to defeat them" no, somehow, someway, she focus on "Cozy Glow was sent to Tartarus" and rant to Celestia about if there was no better thing to do, and to Luna and Twilight for just agreeing without thinking as if they were stupid and point that if they did not think of just throwing her there, that fight could not be happening
10464964
Her mask is like a seal on a container of contents under high pressure that's continuously building, with a valve that can be opened to let off some of the pressure in a controlled manner. If she doesn't let off some of the pressure every once in a while, the thing will burst and then everything goes to hell. It's really not that hard to understand if you use an analogy like this that can be used interchangeably for many human stresses. We all have appearances to keep, even at times where our true feelings would like nothing more than to say 'fuck it'.
10465282
ah yes, the Cozy Glow mess... She'll be showing up sooner or later and she's gonna get talked down.
As for Duskfall... I do believe you're right. She's already spent energy yelling at other versions of Celestia and Luna for the other fuck ups. Cozy Glow is a new and fresh fuck up she can yell at them for. Also:
Duskfall: "YOU PUT A FUCKING CHILD IN TARTARUS?! ARE YOU MORE INSANE THAN I AM?! I knew you could be a bunch of dumbasses, but God Almighty, are you ACTUALLY EVIL?! SHE! IS! A! CHILD! YOU SEND HER TO THERAPY, NOT A CELL NEXT TO TIREK OF ALL PEOPLE!"
And for the sake of time, I'm cutting off the response there, even if she's still ranting in my head.
10465325
I suppose it could be looked at like that. I just don't like using the comparison because for most people the mask is made to protect themselves. For Duskfall, the mask is to protect others. Sort of the logical extreme of the 'superheroes hiding behind their masks to protect their loved ones' idea.
10465382
Not to say a pegasus filly, tell me how dangerous can she be that need to be put in Tartarus inside a little box.
And there is something... Does Tartarus even have toilet? I just imagine her in the small cage with Tirek at the side forced to sleep and if she need to go to the toilet then could only do it there.
10465847
Well that's a lovely image.
We can claim one of two routes: Either Tartarus keeps its prisoners in a state of biological stasis and thus no need for toilets or the waste products are vanished as they leave the bowels/bladder.
At times I wonder how Tom and Twilight would react to meeting Duskfall
Somehow, I think that while she could end depressed in that timeline for Celestia leaving everything to that Twilight, It flashed my head a worse timeline... A timeline that somehow both Tom and Twilight managed to get separated before Tirek. If Dusk end there she could really get depressed (or so I think)
10468409
At first I was confused as to why Tom and Twilight would depress Duskfall. Then Duskfall spoke up and pointed out that seeing everything she wanted but couldn't have would, in fact, be cause for depression. A single bite of the forbidden fruit, forever unable to consume the whole thing.
10465847
Oh no, it doesn't. There nither toilets nor food in Tartarus. As the cherry on top the only thing that change about the inhabitants is their memories. They remember staying there. Their bodies are frozen in time in almost every possible way, though. Except for moving around the Tartarus somehow. Actually, it may have neither time nor space in the first place and manifest itself directly in the minds of its inhabitants.
10468713
But then, how could Tirek escape the first time and what use is Cerberus?
10468783
Well, same as anyone who visit like Celestia or Twilight. Otherwise they won't be able to leave it as well. So, apparently it was setup with entrance area both in real space and not space of Tartarus, so when you cross the threshold you either stored in there and see Tartarus or returned back. Whoever built this definitely haven't thought about security, though. Thus we have Cerberus to ward off the inhabitants from that place.
10468941 10468783
Given what we see of Tartarus and how it's different just after Tirek escapes to how it appears when Cozy Glow attempts to destroy magic, I would assume that originally Tartarus was simply a well fortified cave guarded by Cerberus. When Tirek escaped, Celestia and Luna completely overhauled Tartarus' security, making it a sperate sub dimension as one of those new security measures.
10470078
Is Tirk immortal or at least eternally youthful then? It has to be a separate sub-dimension before he got there otherwise.
10470089
not necessarily. Just because it wasn't a sub dimension yet doesn't mean Tartarus wasn't under some kind of bio-stasis spell.
