Ancient runes and the spells they can create have always fascinated Twilight Sparkle. However, when she uses one of them to create a copy of herself to help keep the household running, things get a little out of hoof. Now Shadow Twilight is on the loose and she has to stop her before she does... something evil.

Features all of the Mane 6, but I picked Twilight because it's mostly about her.

Well, this has been fun. Story itself is 6'490 words, but I've added some bonus material to it, trying to build a working rune system. Feel free to comment if you have any suggestions or improvements for it. Of course, you're very welcome to use this in your own works. Just let me know if you've made any changes so that I may make them 'canon' if I want.

Written in three days, during which I spent 246.5 minutes on it. I think that's a good statistic. It almost let me forget that I'm stuck with Midnight for the next months. Well, I guess I could just make her successfully commit suicide out of nowhere, set it to complete, then suddenly add more chapters when I feel like it. Nah, I wouldn't do that:scootangel:.

My entry into the Struggling Authors contest, let's see how this goes. The objective was to write a 6-10k story that was sad, tragedy, slice-of-life, comedy, or any combination. So I pulled an idea straight out of my arse as I usually do and went to see how it went. It's not really Randumb, *Insert deity here* knows I despise of that almost as much as r63, there are some comedic elements especially at the start and I hope that my plan to create comedic effect through taking things FAR less serious than normal and inserting a few jokes here and there will work out. Jeesh, I can't write stories that don't involve leghumping and an occasional suicide attempt.

...

Well, this is the part where you tell me that I can.

Whatever. Before you leave, take a few ideas I'm pulling out right now which I don't like for various reasons.

-Rarity can't find Opalescence anywhere until she finds her band next to a shredder and rushes to replace her before Sweetie Belle returns from school, which she fails to do, however, it turns out that Sweetie just took her for Show and Tell. Too standard and predictable.

-Applejack walks in on Fluttershy and Big Macintosh seemingly having sex in the barn. Everything sounds like it's yet another of those misunderstanding, but in the end, it's cleared up that all that drama resulted because they WERE and Applejack wanted to join into a threesome. Eh, I don't really do THAT 'mature' stuff.

-Twilight casts a spell on Derpy which reverts her eyes back to normal and also adds a bit of mental capability to her. What she fails to notice is that she starts to get dumber and her eyes start to slightly cross, just enough to impair her reading. But she can't fix that unless she lifts the spell, which Derpy, after a brief consideration, gladly takes onto her, as she prefers to be derp'd herself than having to watch Twilight suffer with what she learned to get on with. I like the concept of this one, but again, too standard.

I admit to cracking a smile at the Rules.

Weirdly, friends and acquaintances consider me at least somewhat amusing in person, but I don't think I could write a funny fic to save my life. And a list of my bad ideas would be a lot longer than 6500 words.

Heh, I really like the sound of that one where Twi underpifies Derpy. Sounds like good times!
