Fulfilling Her Destiny

Meeting Celestia

After leaving the apartment and boarding the train, Twilight, Starlight and Minuette were headed to Canterlot to see if cake baking was her special talent. The ride up there was rather quiet and with Twilight being nervous, the tension was thick, very thick, so thick that one could easily cut it with a knife.

Once they arrived in Canterlot, the first place they headed was the palace. Everything seemed so familiar to Twilight yet at the same time it felt so different. It hadn't been all that earlier that her brother was escorting her to the train station, hoping that nopony would harass her over her blank flank. This time, it would be Starlight and Minuette escorting her to the palace to see if maybe, just maybe, her dreams of finally getting her cutie mark would come true.

When they arrived at the palace, Starlight would be pleasantly surprised when the guards allowed her entry without questioning her, Minuette or Twilight. As they continued through the palace, everything seemed so familiar to Twilight, things from just earlier in the morning. When they arrived in the throne room, Celestia was sitting there just as regally as she was that morning. When she saw Starlight she gave her a smile, "Starlight, Minuette, what are you doing here?"

Starlight replied, "Well as you know you had asked Minuette and I to help this pony, Twilight Sparkle, to get her cutie mark."

Celestia took a look at the mare in front of her and noticed that she still did not have her mark. She shook her head and asked, "I take it neither of you could help her find her talent?"

Starlight replied, "Well Minuette thinks she might have but she will need to use the kitchen to see if she truly has discovered her special talent."

Celestia gave Twilight a curious look and asked, "You need to use the kitchen, what for?"

Twilight approached Celestia, bowed and replied, "Princess Celestia your Majesty, while I was down in Ponyville I discovered that I really enjoy baking cakes and that I'm pretty good at it. I was wondering if maybe I could have the chance to make you a cake and see if I might get my mark."

When Celestia heard her mention making a cake, her ears shot up. She gave Twilight a smile and said, "Of course you can!" She leaned down to where she was at eye level with Twilight and continued, "If there is one thing in life I truly love, it is cake!"

Twilight gave her a nervous smile knowing that very soon she would be able to do what it took to get her mark. Celestia gave her a smile and continued, "Alright Twilight, I will lead you to the kitchen and we'll see how good you are at baking cakes."

Twilight nodded as Celestia led the three to the royal kitchen. Celestia had been there plenty of times but despite being her protege, even Starlight had never seen it before. Once they arrived, Celestia requested that Twilight make a cake for not just her, but all three of them.

Twilight nodded and began to work on making a cake that Celestia would absolutely love. When they returned to the throne room, they began to talk about Twilight more and what all she did during her time down there. Celestia asked, "Starlight, so what all did you have her do while you were down there? What sorts of things did she try?"

Starlight replied, "When she first got down there, I had her try out re-shelving books in the library but that didn't turn out very well for her. Then she worked with Lyra to see if she was good at playing the lyre but she wasn't."

Minuette added, "And it was after that when I took her to the kitchen to see how good she was when it came to baking."

Celestia replied, "Well, we shall see how good she is before too long."

Baking a Great Cake

In the kitchen, Twilight had gathered together what she thought would be ingredients good enough to make a cake. She had found the same ingredients that she had in Ponyville when she made the cake down there. Like it was in Ponyville, she did not follow any specific recipe. What she did do though, was put the exact same amounts of ingredients in the mixing bowl that she did in Ponyville. She was bound and determined to make a cake that Celestia would love and with any luck, it would cause her to earn her mark.

About an hour after beginning work on the cake, Twilight emerged from the kitchen holding four slices of chocolate cake with strawberry frosting along with a fork for each of them. Celestia's eyes grew wide when she saw this. She asked, "Are those for us?"

Twilight replied, "Yes, these are for us."

Celestia was the first to start eating her cake. She couldn't believe how good it was. She got a huge smile on her face and asked, "Twilight, where did you learn to bake like this? It is delicious!"

Twilight replied, "I just figured out how to bake, I never learned how to make it!"

Celestia continued to eat her cake until she was finished. She approached Twilight, got down at eye level with her and continued, "Twilight Sparkle, that was by far the most delicious cake I have ever had." She put her wing around her and continued, "I'm going to be honest, I could really enjoy more meals like......."

As she was saying this, Twilight began to levitate, had become encircled in light and very soon, something magical happened. When she returned to the ground she looked at her flank and no longer was it bare. Her flank now had a piece of chocolate cake with strawberry frosting on it, she got her cutie mark!

When she saw this, she began to jump up and down and celebrate, "Yes, yes, yes, yes! I can't believe it, I got my cutie mark!" She put her hooves around both Starlight and Minuette and continued, "Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! I never would have got my mark without you two!"

Starlight replied, "You're welcome Twilight, hopefully now nopony will make fun of you anymore."

Twilight then turned to Celestia before adding, "And thank you your Majesty, thank you so much for giving me a chance to make a cake for you!"

Celestia couldn't help but giggle, "Oh Twilight, you don't have to refer to me as 'your Majesty,' you can just call me Celestia."

Twilight asked, "Really, you're going to let me be informal with you?"

Celestia replied, "Yes I am but now I think that the time has come to discuss your future."

Twilight's pupils shrank as she asked, "My future?"

Celestia replied, "Yes, your future. Today you proved that you are excellent when it comes to making cakes and I have a question. What would you think about moving into the palace and becoming my personal baker?"

This completely shocked Twilight. She had never once imagined that not only would she finally get her cutie mark, but that she would also finally have a chance to move out of her parents' house. She gave Celestia a huge smile and replied, "I would love to be your personal baker!"

Celestia replied, "Very well then. You will move into the bedroom right across from me and become my personal baker." She then turned to Minuette and Starlight and continued, "Thank you ladies for doing this for her. I know for so long that she faced so much heartache and hardship but because of you two, she is finally free."

In unison the two said, "You're welcome Celestia."

It would not be long until Celestia got back to discussing Twilight's future with her so Starlight and Minuette figured the time to go had arrived. Starlight yelled, "We'll see you later Celestia!"

Minuette added, "Bye Celestia, we'll see you soon!"

Celestia yelled back, "Bye ladies!"

As the two left the palace, they both were happy that they were able to get Twilight her cutie mark. Minuette couldn't help but be ecstatic that she had helped a pony who seemed so lost and sad finally discover her true talent in something that she loved. Starlight too was happy but for different reasons. Starlight was thrilled because finally she would not have to worry about a pony from her past finding a way to alter the past and preventing the present from ever coming to be.

Can't say it's a satisfying ending, Starlight is really selfish and far too pleased with what she has done. She destroyed lives and friendships, she lied and cheated and got rewarded. What goes around comes around and when the consequences catch up with her they will be dire.
Now maybe you meant it differently, but think about it is Starlight really the hero in this time line? She didn't accept Twilight's offer of friendship and specifically ruined her life andnst

Here's the thing, only she remembers anything from before the creation of the Glimmerverse so there will be no consequences to catch up with her. For everypony else, this is normal and nopony knows any different.

I guess the intent was a "happy ending" but I just can't see this as anything other than a villain being rewarded for their villainy. Starlight's solutions to problems will be more aggressive and manipulative, she has seen manipulation and trickery get her every thing she wants, she's not going to stop using it. Eventually everything will blow up in her face.
It doesn't matter everypony thinks Starlight is good, she isn't, we've seen when she realized her methods where wrong she still fell back into old habits. She wouldn't change her ways if she sees what she did as right.

8580770

Eventually everything will blow up in her face.

In the regular ponyverse, that would happen. When this takes place in a universe where the current situation is all anypony knows, there will be nothing to blow up in her face. For anything to go to hell for Starlight, Twilight would have to master time travel in the same way Starlight did, find a way back to the happenings at the end of the alternate ending of "An Unlikely Love: The Tale of Two Friendship Students" and stop Starlight from ever preventing her from hatching Spike....and Starlight is fiercely protective of the further altered time spell that allowed her to do what she did....so it ain't happening! Starlight has nothing to worry about!

8580808
But Starlight didn't change. Succeeding in rewriting history has taught her that she can FORCE others to do what she wants with magic. She's going to keep using magic to force others to do what she wants, that will blow up in her face. It might be different if Starlight didn't remember, but if she does then she is still the villain.

I AM STILL GOING CRAZY U TOOK MY THOUGHT THAT I POSTED TO U AND USED IT TO MAKE A CUTE LITTLE STORY!!!!!!!!!!! I AM JUMPING FOR JOY!!!!!!!!!!!!:pinkiehappy:

You're welcome, I just thought this would be a great story to write. Sad thing is, I don't even know where you posted your thought....I'm glad you enjoyed the story though.

Of course Starlight is going to remember, she is the one who created all this. In an instance in "Spring Comes How," in "Starlight Glimmer and Friends," she is depicted as being extremely protective of a lock box that contains the further altered spell that she used in the alternate ending of "An Unlikely Love: The Tale of Two Friendship Students" that she used to prevent Twilight from hatching Spike, caused the spell, her adult knowledge and abilities to be transported back to herself as a filly. Many people may think that she is still a villain but she really isn't. She is protecting the current timeline from any and all threats and figured that aiding Twilight in getting a non-magic CM would do that. Without Twilight having a magic based CM, Starlight knows she won't have to worry about Twilight being able to do what she did.

8581497
Again the issue is she's only protecting herself, her motivation is selfish, it's keeping everything she stole. She destroyed Twilight's life an only helped her get a cutie mark because it protected her new timeline. You even wrote it showing Starlight was pleased to see Twilight's situation at first. How did what she did effect the rest of the main 6? There are so many consequences for altering the timeline that Starlight's self centered mind set will cause. Just because the timeline is stable doesn't mean the consequences go away. Starlight will have to deal with the crimes of her past self eventually when some key event that needed Twilight comes around and she can't cut it. I guess if you prefer you can ignore the obvious, ignore Starlight getting rewarded for destroying a timeline and running lives.

8581549

Here is the thing, in the Glimmerverse, Starlight is the element of magic and her friends are the other element bearers so they will be able to handle things just fine, and regarding the "Ponyville 5" as they are referred to in the Glimmerverse, their lives are stable and are as they were prior to Twilight going to Ponyville....with the exception of Applejack and Lemon Hearts discovering that they are actually sisters....and LH living on Sweet Apple Acres.

8581747
Would it actually have been a bad thing if Twilight did try to bring the old timeline back?

8582529

Yes, extremely bad! In the Glimmerverse, Starlight Glimmer is the element of magic so preventing her from getting the scroll and all her knowledge as a filly could lead to a complete and absolute disaster.

8582678
You realize your story contredict your words ?
Starlight was in the ponyverse when she go back in time and « stole » the element of magic from Twilight, so she was still in ponyverse at this precise moment, and the consequences are just stolen destiny. You call it glimmerverse, but before filly Starlight get her future memory, it’s still the ponyverse. So by the logic of your story, if somepony put everything back in place before Starlight messed up everything, there would be no disaster.
And I would add that since we are in an altered ponyverse, this glimmerverse should end in a disaster, just like cannon show us with the other alteration.

8583302

Here is the thing, when Starlight traveled back and altered things, they did not simply travel back to the present. Starlight got the scroll, the knowledge and her abilities as a filly and everything went forward from there. This allowed things to flow naturally as though this was the way it always was. In "Starlight Glimmer and Friends: Adventures in Equestria (Season 1)" the Glimmerverse's Mane Six handled Nightmare Moon with no problems and will do so with future threats.

In the show, there was no force to hold evil at bay, in the Glimmerverse there is so your argument involving "canon" and the show holds zero weight here. Go and read the linear stories and you'll see why the Glimmerverse won't end in a disaster.

8583532
When Twilight return in the « present » , the time continue on like it was always mean to do too. The whole mane 6 from the past see the time flow normally too. Twilight just take a shortcut in time and as spectators, we are for the ride too. Twilight witness what happen after years of butterfly effect but for the mane 6 of the modified timeline, everything is as it always was. The Applejack from Sombra’s timeline even hint it.
Also, in the show, when Starlight was telling Rainbow and co. , she give them advice about tolerance. She is modifing there knowledge, just like the scroll and the spell did with filly Starlight . It’s not because the mean is different than the result will be too.
In both case something travelled back in time and modified something, both time the timeline as been messed with. There is not enough great difference in both case, but I admit that point is more in my opinion than a fact.

8583895

Here is another thing. that was simply the shortcut. Starlight Glimmer was able to start from that point and take things down a path that favors her. She lived through it, there was no shortcut. She had the opportunity to change things and did so. She went to Celestia's school, became her protege, befriended the Canterlot 5, went to Moondancer's party, she and her friends went to Ponyville and defeated Nightmare Moon. These are different situations because in the end this Mane Six will keep things from going awry. Things will not go haywire because like I said in the last reply, the Glimmerverse has a Mane Six to maintain order. Yes Starlight has knowledge that will give her an advantage, yes she will know how to handle things more easily and she had a feeling that if Twilight managed to get a cutie mark, she may eventually pull what she did in the regular ponyverse and was dead set on making sure that chaos did not reign from her going back and changing things.

This is something that you and I will likely argue on about forever but I've designed the Glimmerverse to where evils can be defeated. Mane Six, check. Elements of Harmony, check. Close friendships, check. You can say what you want but things will remain stable and the Glimmerverse is here to stay since Twilight got a cutie mark in baking cakes and not magic. One difference though, Celestia will have lots and lots more in the way of cake!

8583925
Then just on last thing that I realised, for the story : Starlight will be found out by Celestia if Celestia is planning to transform her into an Alicorn since the process will show ALL of her memory to Celestia. I hope you'll find something.

8583970

Starlight will realize that and naturally she will do her best to prevent Celestia from seeing all her memories....SPOILER ALERT....she will find a spell and be successful in preventing Celestia from seeing anything that would cause her to be found out.

8580754
So... Does this mean Starlight is going to be a Karma Houdini? Which, mind you, usually considered to be a bad thing?

8582678
Got it. Is she to be considered a separate person than the Starlight from the old timeline? And what's your counterargument to her still being a villain?

Somehow I think the Elements should be aware of her thoughts and former actions and that she is being selfish so I think your (the author) arguments aren’t very good as the elements shouldn’t work for her. Why else do you think every time in the episode something bad happened when she changed history.
Everyone seems to like to forget that the reason’s the elements work is because the users are Genuinely HONEST, LOYAL, GENEROUS, KIND, and able to get others to smile (laughter). And all the values that are fully caps are not true of Starlight in this (magic requires all of the elements).
One has to realize that a large part of the reason Twilight got where she did is because she did NOT try to get there.

My god…. How did I forget that starlight messes up the past? She’s gonna be in for a rude awakening once Luna breaks free of the moon and since the mane 6 aren’t together to activate the elements and prevent the other future disasters, starlight just destroyed equestria with one simple change unless the elements would work with the canterlot 6, which is why starlight might have befriended them in the first place.
