TheTimeSword

For someone named "TheTimeSword", I sure don't manage my time very well.

Whoa. Lots of dislikes... People really hate the gore tag. That or they find the first chapter boring, even if it is only the start of the story. C'est la vie, life goes on. Next chapter will be up tomorrow, and I hope that this story will be completed by Halloween or close to it.

7660484 Personally, I wouldn't worry about it. The story just needs to get off it's feet and the like to dislike ratio will balance itself out. All of your stories have good ratios except the ones that aren't very popular, and even then, they don't even SHOW the ratio.

7662401 You're right. Thank you. I was just caught off guard by the vast amount so quickly. Never had I seen it happen in real time, usually the trickle in slowly as it progresses. Haha.

And with that last publish, Hours Loom 2 ends. Thanks for those who actually read it, I hope you enjoyed. This is one of my favorite series to write. Even though this one didn't do as good as the previous, I'll be continuing the next iteration in October of next year. Hope to see you all then!

I think its that strange stallion. :V

The captain was impressed by her learning speed and assumed that’s why she was an alicorn and he was not.

she was an alicorn and he was not.

he was not.

No shit Sherlock. There is not a single male alicorn, period.

This story is amazing, amazing job!

I feel very conflicted on Zephyr and Limestone. On the one hoof, that's right up my alley fetishwise, but on the other, they were the only characters aside of Twilight I really hoped survived, and this is where I feel the fic went from dark to super dark (which ruined the later dark comedy for me).

Porter is going to be Rarity in disguise, right?

I'm calling a twist of it being both AJ and rarity working together and her attempt to kill Aj was to throw twilight off and her throw actually missed it but rarity dropped AJ and they did the whole thing as a team (note I'm guessing without reading first so I could be 100% wrong)

Edit holy beeping beep that twist good sir or madam are you planning on making this a universe or just 3 fics to close it because there's potential for side stories and even more killers to show up weather copycats after fame or people staging events to be the hero or even tasteless murder night mystery games that goes wrong this could be a trend

You know what they say about lighting in a bottle. You can't catch it twice. What they don't tell you is how close you can get.

This is certainly a flawed sequel, but it's by no means bad. On the more negative side, Twilight felt far less active this time around, which is a shame given the eventual killer reveal. If anything, where the first one was Twilight's story, this one was Maud's story, with her being a supporting protagonist driving the story forward while Twilight was a far less active main character. That's not inherently bad, but I think it does hinder the killer reveal in retrospect. The killers being Twilight's parents should have put Twilight even more front and center, but she almost spends more time asleep in the story than she does driving it forward, to the point where the one to all but land the final blow on both of them is Maud. I'm a Maud fan, don't misunderstand me, but it likely would've been better to have her play this big of a role if the killer or killers was/were a part of her family. Characters also felt a bit more flat outside of Twilight and Maud, having a lot less to do for the most part. Whereas the first story gave a lot of focus to several characters in the ensemble to build them up a lot, this story doesn't really focus on developing characterization—especially for the OCs. I can only imagine the issue comes in that there are far more characters this time around, so building them all up equally wasn't as possible. The pacing feels a bit worse than the first story, too, which had kills spread throughout the story instead of being clumped mostly towards the end. And finally, as someone who has seen a lot of 80s slashers, I know the sexual elements of slashers are usually played up, but the scene between Zephyr and Limestone was effectively just pornographic and a bit gratuitous. Of course, being a lesbian, it might just be my general distaste for male anatomy, so we'll call it a wash lol.

Now, I think what's on the good end shines through much more, so let's get to that. I know I did kinda complain about her stealing the spotlight here, but on its own merit, Maud doing as much as she does is a godsend. If anyone was going to be a true protagonist outside of Twilight, I am damn glad it was her. Throughout the entire story, she picked up slack that Twilight left in her many points of being asleep or outside of the main plot, and her confrontations with both killers all throughout the story and especially in the end were terrific. Much like Twilight previously, Maud is always thinking on her feet and fighting back, most definitely deserving of the Final Girl title alongside Twilight. Similarly, when Twilight is active in the story, it's always a pleasure. She still holds her own when needed, and while I wish she would have done even more given that the killers were her parents, I never exactly felt that there was too little of her, likely owing to the story still primarily being in her perspective. The lack of plot armor outside of Gale comes back in full force and works like a charm. It's not often a slasher surprises me with survivors, but when they're this tense and have this gruesome of kills, it definitely stands out as a positive. Even kills as simple as a slit throat evoke gruesome imagery, and that's coming from someone who is quite literally unable to visualize things in any capacity! Which, of course, is another positive. The kills and gore are just as good as the first story. Another huge plus is the locale. Jason Takes Manhattan is (rightly) criticized for not living up to the title, but on the other hand, I always found the idea of a slasher set on a cruise ship, where escape is quite literally not an option at all, to be far more compelling. This story understands and emphasizes that (at least outside of Soarin's departure). I also have to praise the naming of Gale at all, given how much of a fan I am of Gale Weathers. I can only assume this is an intentional, cheeky reference, but I really enjoyed it (and found it funny that their personalities are polar opposites). And just, in general, it's a tight story with some pretty damn good execution of its themes and concepts.

Overall, it's not as good as the first, but is still a worthy follow-up that leaves me wanting more. I know it was said that Hours Loom 3 would start in October of 2017, which unfortunately never happened, but I'm still holding out hope for a completed trilogy and hoping for the glorious return and subsequent second survival of Maud Pie!
