Time moves too fast for anypony to stop and think about what their legacy will be. But in those final moments, it seems to slow down just enough for those ponies to wish they had more time to think about the question.

A character study. Thoughts on how you'd write the characters are particularly encouraged for this story.

Oof. Honestly, I can't say if it ends better with or without chapter zero.

This part is very Rainbow Dash

Ok, I'm confused. What the heck was this chapter?

While I can't rightly answer that :duck:, I've enjoyed it as a(n):

  • mild spot of trolling from the author*
  • on point post S7-finale characterization of Twilight
  • reminder that the fic should also be read from Zero to Six (without having done this, "reading Chapter Zero first" does wonders to reinterpret Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie's chapters**)

*: which despite the negativity associated with this that have even lead to authors apologizing for doing so, I at least enjoy when done well enough :pinkiehappy:.
**: Twilight's chapter especially; hers felt both emotionally detached and felt like she was reading a pre-written speech, esp. when put against her friends' chapters :fluttercry:. (And yes, Twilight's characterization in that chapter is very much valid and consistent with the series :pinkiesad2:).

This is about as close as I can get to writing an actual dark story, to be honest. I'm too wimpy to publish it without Chapter 0. It functions in the same way that Esle Ynopemos used in some of their dark stories—an out to keep the story grounded in canon reality and prevent it from being too dark (the M6 actually all dying at once from a giant fireball or something).

Never listened to that, but yes, I did want to explore the trope that the last few seconds of your life are always the longest. You don't necessarily think rationally, but you definitely think a lot (though I am projecting here).

I actually originally wrote this story mid-S5 (and the publish date of the chapters falls at the beginning of S6)! I honestly can't explain why I took so long to publish it; I had to edit a few chapters to get in line with S7 canon (particularly Rainbow Dash); that's how long it took. But yeah, the S7 finale was the impetus for me to finally get the dang story out.

Can you explain what part of the the chapter/story you found as "mild trolling," though? I do not like trolling any better than the next guy, and I wasn't trying to with this story.

You know,

As much as I like this as a stand alone I can't help but to think about the aftermath.

What would the discussion be like in the morning?

Is Twilight ever going to live this down?

And maybe the reason RD is crying is something else entirely?

It's been a long time since I first read this and whenever I think about it I find that the thought still haunts me.

I'm honestly unsure if I want to see a sequel or not! :twilightblush: The frustration of not knowing really adds to the story.

Ya know, this is incredibly well written. Thank you.
