Everyone assumes that the royal sisters were meant to be rulers. For Celestia it is something she never wanted. During special dream she remembers the whole thing from when Star Swirl found her and Luna to her being forced to banish her only friend and family.

I made this because the thing wouldn't leave my head

So good!!! Imagine the burden of being a princess and raiser of the sun, Ha I'd rather be a homeless pony than that

On the other hand, Celestia's had at least a thousand years to come up with something else if she's really all that unhappy about running things. Whether that's a representative form of government, letting Equestria break back up into it's constituent parts, finding some other royal line (perhaps merging ones respected by various segments of society), or appointing a regent-priest once a generation to rule in her stead.

Maybe Starswirl set her and her sister on this path, but staying on it is their choice.

5993134 perhaps that is the thing Star Swirl wanted?

Maybe, but at some point Celestia has to take responsibility for her own decisions. Once she was old enough to make her own decisions, she could have renounced him. She could have called together the leaders of the day and told them she wasn't going to rule anymore and that they'd just have to sort out all the political stuff themselves. Effective in a year. Or immediately. Or she could just leave without bothering to tell anyone. There are always choices, even bad ones. People show by their actions which choice they deem good - or the least bad. Resenting Star Swirl after she's chosen - day after day and year after year - to treat his plan as good is petty. She's had ample opportunity to throw her burden away; she has no one to blame but herself if she keeps hauling it.

5993986 true yet if she leaves how long would things devolve into chaos? Equestria a nice place only because the ponies work together. If she leaves how long before things devolve into chaos? During that thousand years the elements are useless meaning discord could escape. If anything she first must make sure that they could survive long term without her.

And how would it be her responsibility if things devolve into chaos, assuming she told everyone ahead of time so that there would be no false expectations of her continued presence? If they fight one another, that's their own affair. They must take responsibility for their own actions. If the only thing keeping them from each other's throats is solar annihilation, then Equestria is not a nice place, merely a quiet one.

The ponies survived for some time before Celestia came along. Surely her leadership has left them a greater people then when she found them. If not, she not only could, but should quit before she makes thing any worse. Moreover, if their survivability hinges on her being magically powerful, there's nothing keeping her from hanging around even without a title.

This is short but it was ok.... Was hoping for a longer version.
