WELL TOO BAD! Humanity is coming, first contact between two vastly different factions! The might of the humans is unrivaled and with an ENTIRE PLANET for the taking, their will be war and there will be Grim Encounters!
This is a story of several militaristic first contact scenarios between the Equestrians and Humans at various points in history!
Note: All humans, whether ahistorical or fictional, can make an appearance in my story. I will make some changes to their origins and other things just to keep this in a steady pace with little exposition involve.

I have to admit I find the question of which side would win not terribly interesting. Stories are about people and sides aren't people. People have stuff they need or want to even if the side they are theoretically attached to collapses.
So now you've got a story where Equestrians are waking up to Russian occupation (of Canterlot, at least). Now what? The ponies still have to put food on the table. A good chunk of the people (like any people anywhere) are just going to roll with it and let someone else sort out the possibly-not-that-important-to-me question of who gets to be in charge. Farmers still need to get their crops to market disirregardless of the political situation.
Perhaps more interestingly from the perspective of this fic, those who do want to do something about the Russians taking over are going to have to do a lot of learning in a hurry. They're going to have find ways to steal and use Russian tech (occupiers tend towards laxity), learn the strengths and weaknesses of military power and psychology, and figure out how to stretch their magic to give themselves a fighting chance. Alongside that, there's bound to be other human nations that would be massively upset at Russia taking over a whole other planet. If they don't already have the technology to pass to Equestria as the Russians do and/or know about the invasion, it's going to be the resistors' number one priority to find a way to get it to them so that they, in return, can get support from them. That'd be quite a story in itself.
I can't tell if this is an intentional trollfic or if you're trying to be serious with it. A coup de`tat is when power is illegally taken from a government, like a secret police force or a country's military taking over a government, coercing cooperation from a ruler is just war. There's also the small detail of Russia not really gaining anything of any value from taking of an entirely different planet, its not like equestrian has any oil deposits or that Russia needs more land, they can barely supply the outskirts of what they have now I doubt they could afford to supply the occupation of another planet.

The Africans did eventually achieve independence after eighty-ish years and two world wars. Many of their countries have troubles up the wazoo.
I guess it's a mixed bag. And in any case, the stories didn't "end". Stuff is still happening right up to the present day.
Which their "ally" will happily take from them at the earliest convenience. What does a rising superpower need with an anemic has-been?

Oh, those Indians. You ought to be more specific. Their key weakness was not having any immunity to a zillion European diseases. So long as the ponies aren't ludicrously susceptible to the many diseases every Russian is infected with, they'll be fine. Demographically, at least. Provided the Russians aren't downright genocidal. They might even have a population boom after being conquered the way the (subcontinent) Indians and Africans did.
Technology-wise, they'll have innumerable opportunities to pick it up. Once the occupiers start settling in, the black market will take care of everything. So long as individual ponies can get ahold of things of worth on Earth, enterprising Russians (and their "allies") will find ways to get things they want back from Earth. Digital entertainment, strange foods, technological manuals, weaponry, etc.
The Russians will also be wanting to set up factories, mines, etc. in Equestria. Slave (if that's what we're going for....) workers work cheaper, after all, so there's a financial incentive to moving/creating as much industry in Equestria as possible. Unless they want to bring the slaves to Russia (or unnamed "ally" country) to work, in which the ponies are likely to become even more acquainted with technology. And the internet. And politics. And the various ways subjugated groups have found to bedevil their oppressors throughout human history.
5731809 This is starting to read like 80's anti-soviet propaganda, Russia may be powerhungry but they're not some kind of comic book villain who attacks just because the opportunity is there. I'll admit I forgot how abundantly jewl rich equestria is but resources will mean very little when no one will trade with you. With this story taking place in 2000 that means it will be extremely close to the second Chechen War, and if you don't know what that was then long story short Russia did some bad stuff that got them the wrong kind of international attention. If they followed that up or preceded it with the subjugation of an entire race that might have pushed some heavy duty sanctions into place, again, resources are good as long as someone can buy them and your country doesn't have sanctions forced on it, look at what's happening to them right now.
Is this one of those stories where humans are walking anti-magic?

5732479 Magic would be like the TV version. I don't see much application of magic in combat aside from a few main characters. However, what bites the ponies and pretty much all of Equestria the most is that they lack experience in warfare and lack the insane will of humanity to fight on.
5732002 Problem with Equestria is that it is more like a poor Second-world country. It would take at least a decade and a half to catch up with humanity provided they can plan accordingly. The Equestrian races aren't like Japan, those people are very intelligent, going from third-world to first in twenty or so decades.

Cliched Russia... Cliched Putin.... Again. Plus, talking about "exploding heads". If they are a Russian spec ops soldiers (either Alpha, or Vympel, or GRU, or GUSP) - in general, they use only 2 silenced weapons, except pistols. Either sniper assault rifle "Val", or sniper rifle VSS. And both of them are not high-calibre guns. Talking about high-calibre, it must be either T-5000, or OC-44, or "Vyhlop" sniper rifles (the only silenced one here is "Vyhlop", but it is used only by FSB, and they don't act outside the country).
Anyway, if you right about a real people and real countries - you should first learn more about them and only after that - start writing.

Ooh... there's an awesome Alternate History timeline called The Revival of Rhomaion: Age of Miracles which has the Empire of Nicaea reconquering the rest of Anatolia, the Balkans, Syria, Egypt, parts of Italy and Tunisia over a period of several hundred years and reuniting the ERE. Of course, there are setbacks for the Rhomans, otherwise there would be no plausibility. There's a Mesopotamian-based Ottoman Empire, surviving Burgundy, Arles in the place of France, Byzantine Phillipines, Timurid China, strong Ethiopia, and Komnenid-ruled Mexico. Perhaps speculation on what this would look like in modernity and having Equestria sent to this ATL Earth would be an awesome setting for this fic.
