After the return of the Pillars of Equestria, A. K. Yearling gets a letter from Twilight: former villain Stygian is interested in writing. Not one to turn down a request from a princess and interested in learning from somepony who lived a millennium ago, Yearling sets up a meeting with him at a Canterlot donut shop. And so the two commence on Stygian's education of modern fiction.

Takes place not long after "Shadow Play". Written for the May 2020 Pairing Contest.

Sometimes the best stories come from the most unlikeliest of encounters.

In 'Rich in Flowers, Unlucky in Love', one of the flower girls struggles with her growing feelings for a customer, suffering as she watches him stumble into romantic disaster after disaster.

In 'Perspective', Pony Joe shares with one of his customers a tried-and-tested method for resolving a Code Sparkle(otherwise known as a pre-test meltdown).

In 'Late to Class', Lemon Hearts is quite excited to be filling in for an injured professor... until an unexpected student appears in her roster.

And in 'Historical Inaccuracy' Sunny and Zipp go on a scavenger hunt through history to answer a pressing question: is it even possible for one of Sunny's ancient heroes to have had an extramarital affair?

These four stories were written as part of the Quills and Sofas 'May Pairings' contest, where prompts were given matching ponies that didn't have much of a chance to interact onscreen. It was quite fun and challenging. Pre-reading help provided by the Quills and Sofas participants, as well as horsetorian and Celestilune.

Set between Season 7 and Season 8. Somewhat of a companion piece to The Pranking Manual. Reading that story is not necessary to read this one, as it is only mentioned briefly.

It was incredibly rare to find a pony so pathetic and deprived of love and affection that they’d turn to somepony like him for comfort. Love, Stygian realised, and everypony’s selfish desire for it, had bestowed him with a sense of normalcy.

Note: In this story, a little bit of darkness is still in Stygian, becoming some sort of a negative second personality that influences him.

It's been a while since Twilight and the gang returned from Middle Earth, and they've decided to teach its lore and history at their newly opened School of Friendship, and their students love it! One pony most intrested with Middle Earth is Sunset Shimmer, who has returned to Equestria for a long deserved break. The whole idea of new magic and grand quests fascinates her, and leaves her wishing that she could've been there. And after some unforeseen anomalies with the Dimensional Mirror, she gets her wish.

But something is wrong. Bilbo seems younger, and no one has ever heard of Equestria. It appears that she has not only traveled to Middle Earth, but went back in time as well! Now she must help 13 dwarves and a hobbit slay a dragon to get their home back, all the while more, try to find a way back to Equestria.

Good friendships can be hard to come by. Sunburst knows this very well, so upon receiving an invitation to spend some quality time with Starlight, he jumps on it without question. Being Flurry Heart’s Crystaller has been more stressful for him than he cares to admit, and it would be nice to be able to sit down with his old friend, and unwind.

However, Stygian, seeking a book in Twilight’s library, interrupts their quality time. To make matters worse, Starlight is soon called away by an emergency at the school, but assures the two that she’ll be back soon.

The only question is… now what?
