Most of my recent creative output has been on Fimfiction. This site shares some characteristics with the larger world of fiction, but other characteristics are unique. This makes it difficult to develop the right mindset for evaluating my art.
“Hm...I need the character to develop more of a personality. I guess adding to there hobbies would help, though what should I give them without seeming out of place?”
...
“Maybe I could use some of my own hobbies? Let’s see...what do I like?
Drawing, Reading, Writing...”
...
“F**k.”
It's a weird experience to have a popular story after six years on this website. After a sporadic influx of stories every few months, the one that gets me to the top of the page is the one about a self-insert character played absolutely straight. Compare this to my now second most popular story, The Right Reads. That took a few years to build up to its 800 views (though admittedly the first 300 came when I first published
That anyone on this site that is popular in some way (has over 1,000 followers, wrote a super-popular fic or fics, etc.) are either the greatest people alive, like Regidar or Para, or the greatest douchebags alive, like MythrilMoth?
The newest episode, until tomorrow, is Princess Spike. While this episode was a decent one, as Spike-themed episodes go, I believe it was a terrible choice to immediately follow Slice of Life. Of course, the producers of My Little Pony could never hope to top Slice of Life in popularity among Bronies, choosing to decline even a bit of effort to match it was detrimental to the show, as the statistics showed (Nearly half the number of viewers Slice of Life had). Once again, it wasn't that
Mission of Mercy seems to have disappeared from the Popular Stories bar faster than anything else I've written.
Who was that masked short story?
I worked on my latest story for ten months.
I published it twelve hours ago.
It has only eight votes.
Seriously?
...but not written by me.
Sandstorm94's continuation to my own story "A Fragile Nightmare" has already been going for some time, and is overdue for a spotlight:
The Price of a Smile has apparently been approved for EQD posting!
I am deeply sorry, Twilight. I began to tune you out several minutes ago.
Of course, I want every one of you up vote my stories! Seriously though, I've recently given some thought about those little thumbs up buttons and especially those insidious thumbs down buttons.
It happened again. I just finished checking the new chapters of today and returned to the frontpage and there I found "Aunt Millie" in the Popular Stories list:
It's the second time now this happened for me. And with "Aunt Millie" here, it's even better than with my Flurry Heart fic!
I mean, spending the day in the Popular box isn't bad, and I know plenty of stories never pick up 200 views, but... I think my one-shot comedies have given me unreasonable expectations of success.
I mean, granted, "Legacy" is a really vague title, and there's no cover art...
There have been lots of people who, out of the kindness of their heart (or sheer boredom), have chosen to read Fullmetal Pony and drop a line. Seeing those comments, questions, and demands to know when the next update would be have warmed my heart and pushed me to work a little more each day on chapter three's segments. I've made steady progress on parts one, two, and four, plus titles for all four segments.
So...would it be presumptuous of me to cheer when I see this on the homepage?
*DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN, DUN DUN DUUUUUN!!*
So, within the last few weeks I hit a few fantastic firsts. They're small, but hey! They're cool.
I now have over 100 followers! WOOT WOOT! Thanks peeps! I also have a fic with over 1000 views! Another big thanks! So those are the awesome things I want to celebrate. Though, I'm not exactly sure how, so here's a dancing wizard and a smiling wizard:
