"Aunt Millie" made it to Popular Stories!!!!!!!!

It happened again. I just finished checking the new chapters of today and returned to the frontpage and there I found "Aunt Millie" in the Popular Stories list:

It's the second time now this happened for me. And with "Aunt Millie" here, it's even better than with my Flurry Heart fic!
While I partially chalked up the success of the latter to the current popularity of Flurry Heart, for Dinky there were already thousands of fics written and yet my fic for her made it in there. That really shows I'm doing something right in writing.
Like last time, I checked "What's Hot?", the list of the 50 most popular stories here as I just found out, too and I found it on #30, one position above than "Princess Flurry Heart, Destroyer of Worlds!" when it happened for that one!
The best thing about it is, it wasn't even in there when I checked the list the first time, but when I did it the second time it suddenly was, so it jumped up more than 20 positions at once all of a sudden! I did absolutely not expect this to happen.
Thanks to everyone who made that possible! I'm definitely giving back for this by getting the next chapter out next week as early as possible!

May I suggest you put a link to your story in your blog to Aunt Mille? Yeah, I know it's elsewhere on the page, but lazy ponies with ADD (like moi) might be more likely to click through. Just saying.

And thanks for putting up the blog entry. It gave me the idea to do the same thing! My story, Redemption Commentaries, keeps hitting the top of the Most Popular box and won't tip over to Featured for lack of upvotes. Good luck on yours!

Thanks! I just checked again and while further down, it's still on #34! It's still inside!

Does this mean the number of upvotes has something to do with it if a fic gets into the Featured Box? Do you know any specifics?

May I suggest you put a link to your story in your blog to Aunt Mille? Yeah, I know it's elsewhere on the page, but lazy ponies with ADD (like moi) might be more likely to click through. Just saying.

Hmm, do you think this will get it more reads? Letting aside that my blog entries only get very low views, it's literally directly at the right side, Just a few centimeters away from the blog entry. Having the link in the entry directly would probably need as long to reach it with the cursor as having it in the sidebar.

I believe it can't hurt. Be thorough. Be shameless. Nopony notices being quiet and nice ('sep maybe Flutters.) When I post to groups, I make sure a link is prominent. Since I don't see the "Featured in" module on your story page, I am going on a limb (considering you run a group) to assume that you haven't put your story in any groups. May I suggest that you join and add to the appropriate groups, like Shameless Self-promotion, Derpy groups, slice of life groups, etc. And put the link first.

YES. From the site FAQ:

How are featured stories selected?

Featured stories are completely automated. They are calculated on a mix of a few things. The number of likes a story has received, the proportion of likes to dislikes, the total number of ratings, how frequently it's being viewed and the time since it was approved are all factored into the equation.

Note sure why they refer to like/dislikes here and up/down votes for comments as they use a similar icon, so don't be confused. Note the putting a story in favorites plum does not a dang thin'.

Nope, but it's nice when someone likes a fic of yours that he considers it a "favourite". And it's fun to count and collect favourites and every time someone favourites a fic of yours, it drives your adrenaline higher cause it always shows a bit more that you are a good author.
"Aunt Millie" has 17 now.

May I suggest that you join and add to the appropriate groups, like Shameless Self-promotion, Derpy groups, slice of life groups, etc.

I have my little quirk there:

I never submit fics to groups by myself. I want to see when I'm popular enough that readers add my fics to groups themselves because so many like them. That only happened very rarely so far, but once it happens regularly, this will be a sign for it that I have reached great popularity as an author.
I only have submitted three of my fics to a group so far, for special reasons each, one of them just recently, because it's an all OC Pony fic and I know that these don't fare well with most readers here, so I figured no one would ever submit it to groups and just went ahead and did it myself because of that.
But I don't want to make this the norm.
