A gruesome holiday tale with a peppermint twist. In the ancient lands where the three pony tribes once lived the Windigo's magic has locked the weather in an eternal winter storm. Two little foals, who have lost their way, seek to find food and shelter in the deep dark woods. What they take for their only hope for survival may in fact spell their doom.
Meanwhile, it's the first official Hearth's Warming Eve in Canterlot, but something is wrong in the fledgling capital of Equestria. Can Starswirl the Bearded come up with a plan to set things right?

Inspiration

Derpy can never figure out what she wants for Hearth's Warming Eve. So when Pinkie Pie asks her. She finally has an answer. A Hippopotamus.

Pinkie tries to convince Twilight to eat some of her parchment. Apparently, paper tastes really good. Twilight's not so sure what to think.

When Twilight and the others find Pinkie setting up (another) random party, they wonder what the occasion is, especially since the banner says.

‘To my super awesome space friend!’

Pinkie then sits them down and tells them with one of her stories, stories that her friends have come to know and love as crazy, wacky and just impossible.

This is the story of how she saved their planet from destruction (without realizing it), from a being who wanted it gone simply for blocking his view of another planet.

This… is when Pinkie met Marvin.

Pinkie Pie is born to make people smile. It's in her nature.

So after a few strange beings ended up in Equestria, and she got to know Shadow - the serene and lonely Hedgehog - she immediately began trying to make him happy. But so far, it hasn't been working. She's tried everything, but he just doesn't seem to be a sociable guy.

She has already learnt her lesson, thanks to Cranky Doodle. She can't just pester Shadow in an attempt to make him crack a grin. Instead, she has to find out what had turned him into such an introvert. So she decides to throw him a huge, blowout surprise party for him on Hearts and Hooves day.

But she has barely scratched the surface of Shadow's dark history. Little does she know of the things in store for her that particular Hearts and Hooves.

When your life is as dull a gray as the world that surrounds you, the mundanities can make it all seem meaningless. Sometimes all we need is a little color -- or six -- to reintroduce us to what truly makes life worth living.
