Princess Celestia is an immortal princess, so it makes sense she has had many students. But when a number of mistakes leads three of them to abandon their studies, Celestia vows to not make the same mistakes with the remaining student. But what lead them to leave anyway?

Moondancer is looking forward to some uninteruppted studying. She is therefore surprised--and angry--to find that not one, but several of her fellow classmates have decided to stay over the holidays. And none of them are thrilled about it.

Twisted by force and enriched by choice. Alike in all ways but the roads they diverged on, they look upon the other. Fear, regret, anger, resent. Hope, pity, searching, respect. The Elements tore them down the roads they now meet on. Altered by the atrocities and the accolades they have brought.

It is their own hearts that brought them upon the diverging road, and it is their own hearts that speak to them now.

Equestria always seemed to pick the best moments to fall apart. Every time something happened, the Elements of Harmony were always on hoof to save the day. But what can Equestria do when the Elements are busy?

And is it really a coincidence that Sunset Shimmer chose this day to visit one of her friends, or does Equestria really meddle in fate?

Long ago two alicorn Sisters ruled Equestria. One controlled the sun, the other the stars. It has been 1000 years since the younger sister was banished to moon after becoming Deepened Dusk. Now Starswirl, gifted unicorn and prized pupil of Princess Sunset Shimmer, believes that Deepened Dusk will return to seek revenge on Equestria. The only thing that can stop her are the Elements of Harmony, but they have been lost to time. Will she be able to find them in time with her new friends?
