Told from the perspective of the reader listening to Applejack describe the depth of her brother's character by relating a story about how he resolved a conflict between the Apple family and the family of Applebloom's first coltfriend.

Apple Bloom needs help with an assignment. Writers are supposed to have a 'voice' that is uniquely there', that sets them apart from each other. Of course, Apple Bloom won't have that voice at such a young age but how about somepony else? Someone older and wiser who already speaks in a voice that is distinctly his?

While relaxing after a performance, the Rainbooms discover Sunset has scars that she definitely didn't have before the Fall Formal.

Applejack is chosen as The Nightmare's new host.

It really isn't that big of a deal. Until it is.

While welcoming a foreign dignitary to Princess Twilight's Palace, Applejack refers to the single monarch as "Y'all." This, of course, causes the entire Kingdom of Equestria to explode into flames.

Okay, maybe not explode into flames, but it could happen... right? Just ask Twilight...

Meh.

Applejack takes a train ride to see her parents.

The name's Applejack. Canterlot, the capital of our kingdom was beset by a plague of changelings durin' a weddin'. Had it not been for Cadence and Shining sendin' them packin', we might all be changelings by now. Not long after, Princess Celestia ordered a stallion from every house to enlist for the counterattack against them. He served his kingdom, as did countless other colts, and he came back without a scratch on him. Or, so Ah thought...

Most cutie mark stories are happy, exciting tales of finding one's special talent. But not Mac's story. And after Apple Bloom gets into a fight at school, Big Macintosh decides it's time he told her his own cutie mark tale.
