A little story I used to put my headcanon about how time works between the main series and the Equestria Girls sub-series. It's a discussion of why Sunset is so young despite being older than Princess Twilight, as well as why timeliness don't always match up between the two.

Newly-together couple Vinyl Scratch and Octavia have just spent the night out on the town. Vinyl blasted their favourite nightclub with major wubbage while Octavia discovered a new drink at the bar. Now Vinyl has to escort home a marefriend more drunk than she's ever been, and in her intoxicated state, Octavia says just a little bit too much.

After a heavy night of drinking, most of which she can’t remember, Octavia awakens to a monstrous hangover. But even this isn’t enough to distract her from the obvious fact that Vinyl is acting… different. Kinder, sweeter, and much more considerate. Something happened last night, something that has clearly had a huge effect on Vinyl. But what could it possibly be?

Starlight Glimmer managed to successfully save the Mane 6, Spike, and the Princesses from Queen Chrysalis while inspiring the changelings to reform.

Except for Chrysalis. She instead chose to flee in disgrace after warning Starlight to sleep with one eye open.

However, as the group watched Chrysalis run away, Spike asked a big question.

Except... she's not quite ready to go out on her own, amongst ponies that know only tales of nightmares and betrayal about her, and the one pony she knows personally is a little busy running a kingdom and raising the sun. When the offer for companionship comes from an unlikely place, Luna learns two great lessons. One, the risk to get to know a pony can lead to great rewards. Two, socks make everything better.

It was a chance encounter at the night of the Grand Galloping Gala that led to Fluttershy and Princess Luna becoming friends. But as the moons passed and their friendship deepened, the shy pegasus started to realize that what she felt for the Princess of the Night was more than mere friendship.

It was something she had never expected. But now, at the night of Hearth’s Warming Eve, Fluttershy knew it was a path she had to tread if she wished her feelings to be known.

Sunset and Twilight, on a cold, rainy night, curled up in Sunny's apartment.

Returning from Rarity's generously donated job, Coco Pommel is eager to learn under the wing of Ponyville's esteemed designer and her timing couldn't be better. With Canterlot's yearly fashion show and the Grand Galloping Gala right around the corner, Rarity is called to design a eye-catching line for young starlet, Rose Blossom.
Ivory Tower, Rose's manager, runs every minute of her life, and her mother Red Velvet makes sure her daughter is perfect for every photo shoot, public appearance, and cat-walk. Rose's sister, Fleur De Lis, attempts to balance her life and relationship with Fancy Pants with helping her little sister get through each day in one piece.
With such luxury constantly around every corner Rose barely has time for anything but work, but when Coco begins to notice that Rose is anything but the happy, privileged celebrity that everyone thinks she is, Coco unknowingly comes to the rescue with the companionship Rose so desperately needs.
However, friendship can only help so much when you are forced down the wrong path. Rose needs more than just a friend, and what she wants may end up costing her everything.

Fluttershy has sometimes wondered if she’s not as straight as she thinks she is, but between battling evil, saving the world, and caring for lost animals at her sanctuary, she’s never had the time to sit down and figure herself out. But she’s only getting older, and if she ever wants to find somepony to spend the rest of her life with, she’s going to have to find out who she’s actually attracted to first. 

It’s time to undress the citizens of Ponyville with her eyes.
