One of Equestria's greatest traits is tolerance. Every pony, whether Unicorn, Pegasus, or Earth, is accepted for who they are, and have their own parts to play in keeping Equestria running.

But what if an Earth pony decided he didn't want to play his assigned part? What if he wanted to rise above everyone else and become an Alicorn? Such a thing is possible... but the path to fulfilling one's dreams is never simple. Risks must be taken. Sacrifices must be made. And the question is always asked: How far would you go to get what you wanted? And would you be willing to pay a terrible price to get it?

This story is a sequel to Stardust

Twilight has finally returned home from the harrowing challenge that Discord set upon her, and the residents of Ponyville and the Elements especially look forward to having their dear friend returned to them.

Twilight, however, has changed. Still suffering from her injuries, almost incapable of using magic and haunted by the memories of her time on Earth, she becomes increasingly withdrawn from those who were closest to her. Will her frustration at her current state and her friends inability to understand her experiences cost her what she valued most before Discord's bet?

(Crossover with XCOM: Enemy Within, though the crossover and human elements are minimal)

There are a thousand reasons for not making a purchase at the Carousel Boutique. Some of them are legitimate. Many are excuses. The majority are lies. Falsehoods which Rarity has been listening to for years now, without the slightest touch of variety in the performances. Lies which, during the first week of Ponyville's summer tourist season. have escalated to the point where it feels like they're the only words being said at all.

So if nopony is going to buy anything no matter what Rarity does -- why not call them out on a few? Surely that couldn't do any harm, at least not more than what's already been done?

Surely...

The Long Night.
It means different things to different ponies. In Canterlot, Celestia traditionally throws a huge party. Meanwhile, all the pegasi retreat to their sky cites, and all the other ponies from Manehatten to Ponyville hurry home before dark, and lock their windows and doors.
Every year before now, Apple Bloom has always been sent away to stay with her friends or family during the Long Night. But this year, despite Applejack's objections, Granny has decided she is old enough to stay on the farm.
Apple Bloom is excited to finally be allowed to spend the Long Night with her family. To see just what all the fuss is about. Just what really goes on that she was too young to be a part of before now?
This year she gets to find out. But before the Long Night ends, she will wish with all her heart, that she hadn't.
