Professor Bill Neigh is stuck watching the Equestria games with his family when he notices a past project of his, Spike, unable to breathe fire. He can't help but think his meddling with hammerspace physics and magical theory may have been responsible for this.

While browsing r/mlp i found an image by johnjoseco (currently the cover image of this story). It sent my brain into an overdrive, imagining what "the last of us" would be like with the cast of "my little pony", not a cross-over per se or a sequel, the actual story of "the last of us", just with ponies.

So after quickly mapping out what characters would fit what ponies and what characters needed oc's, (No kidding: the first words of this document are "o god what am i doing"), i wrote a ~1500 word story corresponding roughly to the first 15 minutes of "the last of us". This was the first chapter of the story you are looking at right now.

Contains massive spoilers about "The last of us" (obviously).

Was it a magical spell gone awry? An angry god laying waste upon a world that had forgotten him? A long and bloody war? An incurable disease?

Fluttershy couldn't remember what it was that had turned the world to this. All she knew was that she had to survive.

Big Macintosh has fallen hard for the pretty blond mare. When she is forced into a fight for her life, he sticks by her faithfully, but keeping the promises he's made will be an even tougher battle.

Written for a sadfic contest (I won!); the plot is in honor of my mother-in-law, who wasn't so lucky, and I suspect wouldn't actually appreciate inspiring a story about ponies.

Odd how some things stick in one's memory—certain places, personalities, sounds, even smells. Touching on one of these elements can cause a lifetime of experiences to come flooding back.

And just as quickly, they're gone.
