Sweetie Belle sets out to try to find a way to become a crystal pony, in hopes the change will make her sister pay more attention to her.

Sometime after she was saved from near death by her friends, Rarity accidentally discovers she can transform in her Nightmare form at will. Terrified, she hides herself away from everyone. But when a certain dragon checks on her, it will lead to something new being born between the two.

But there is something Spike has been hiding. Sure, it was possible he would have nightmares after what transpired on the moon, but there was something else he was having nightmares about. All it will take is the comfort of a newly crowned lavender Alicorn to finally fix things. Especially when said dragon is about to hit his first growth spurt.

Meanwhile, Sweetie Belle has been having a lot of trouble of her own. She seems to not even flinch at the two bullies words, she seems to be doing worse in school, and she's even seemingly pushing others who try to help her away. And this all started after Rarity was saved. Maybe her sister is what the young unicorn needs to get her back on track.

When Dash overhears part of a conversation outside of the Crusader's clubhouse, she assumes the worst. But when part of an innocent conversation is taken out of context, things get very embarrassing for everyone involved.

When Sweetie Belle got zapped during the Zap Apple Harvest, no one thought much of the filly's light electrocution. However, the zapping has given her a most unusual ability... the ability to change the color of objects, temporarily, into the colors of the rainbow. This is surprising to the little filly, as she has yet to achieve mastery of most magical arts beyond a novice.

Naturally, her adventurous streak gives her an idea. Sweetie Belle will become a superhero. She is the vibrant guardian, the watcher of the palette. She is...

Rarity and Sweetie Belle have a fight after Sweetie accidentally tears a very important dress Rarity was working on. Sweetie gets so mad she runs away from home into the Everfree Forest. Sweetie ends up getting lost and then realizes she could never stay mad at Rarity. Sweetie goes on a journey through the woods desperately trying to get back home to Rarity.

"I'd never let them hurt you, Sweetie Belle..."

The mane six find a golden horseshoe with an odd inscription written on it. Curious, they each try it on and discover that it temporarily turns them into exaggerated versions of who everypony else thinks they really are. Twilight turns into a nerd, Applejack turns into an ignorant redneck, etc. Realizing the horseshoe is too dangerous, Rainbow tries to dispose of it. But she hides it in an obvious spot, and now the horseshoe has fallen into the hooves of other ponies...

After an accident robs them of their parents, Rarity writes Sweetie Belle a letter laying bare a secret kept all the little unicorn's life.

"It's fascinating the level of depth this story takes. Just the part alone about why Rarity represents generosity is enough to bring tears to even the toughest critics. This is an amazing story in every way. Mature in some of its themes and true to life, yet not graphic or exploitive, 'Dear Sweetie Belle' is a must for My Little Pony fans who need a great, sad story to tide them over."
