It's been two months since Twilight and Big Macintosh started dating, and what a wonderful two months it's been. As their relationship blooms, Twilight finds out through Applejack that not all of the Apple family may be keen on a relationship that includes one of their own kin, and a unicorn. Worried about their future together, Twilight asks Big Macintosh for the biggest favor she can think of...to visit his entire family, and see if they can't break old traditions.

This is the sequel to Sparkling Cider, my first fan-fiction. It isn't necessary to have read Sparkling Cider to understand Old Traditions, but it certainly wouldn't hurt!

In a poorly informed bout of revenge, Trixie has returned to Ponyville to make Big Macintosh and Rarity fall in love, because she's convinced this will prove she is the Best Showpony in all Equestria.
But Rarity's going to the spa with Fluttershy, Big Mac has chores to do, and Twilight hasn't the faintest as to why her best friend and best friend's brother are having an episode of freaky Friday...

Big Macintosh is a stallion of few words, but that doesn't mean he's slow or uneducated. Unknown to any outside the Apple family, he's a wiz at math and finds himself smitten with the one pony who could share his love for numbers, and who just so happens to be the personal student of Princess Celestia; Twilight Sparkle. With a "gentle" nudge from his persistent sister, Big Mac manages a date with the purple unicorn, but a relationship might turn out to be more work than either one bargained for.

In an alternate, human Equestria, one's Clan determines everything. Until Princesses Celestia and Luna enact the Harmony Initiative, a law that establishes integration. The first experiment is Ponyville High School, where members of all Clans are selected to attend. But the Initiative is not exactly popular--for students, parents or the Clanleaders. Those are ex-Sergeant Applejack’s thoughts when she buys a fyre-flye class transport ship. For those ponies who have lost the war that unified all worlds under one benevolent tyrant, there doesn’t seem to be anywhere else to go but up. With Applejack as captain, the scavenger crew of Sereinity travels the fringes of the ‘verse, “salvaging” and selling whatever they can.

Until recently, Sereinity was able to pass under the radar of the watchful Harmony Alliance. Now, though, a certain new passenger will make that impossible.

When Rarity has Twilight over for tea, she learns her friend has a big confession to make. But what is really going on here?

Ponyville is shaken to its core when a body is discovered in the Everfree Forest. As the townsponies grieve, the mysterious Special Agent Bentgrass from Their Majesties' Royal Investigative Service arrives at the Books and Branches library and drags Twilight into a world she's only read about: lies, corruption, suspicion, and murder.

Faced with an indifferent police force, and Agent Bentgrass's infuriating methods, Twilight must put the pieces together and catch the killer. But as blood continues to spill and questions pile up, one thing is terrifyingly clear: in the dark of the Everfree, much more is at play than mere murder.
