Hello to all that actually read this! If you're following me, which apparently A LOT OF YOU ARE, then you'll know that I've have been one of the most slowest people to actually get anything done. Ever. When it comes to fics anyway. I've been terribly busy with, well, life, and other stuff. However, now that I'm actually learning to manage my time between work, other work, family, work, soon to be school, and my free time, I'm finally being able to participate once again into the world of My Little Pony Fan fiction.
With that being said, since the release of "My Little Dashie", I've only read... and I'm not lying either, about ten fan fics over all. I know there are a lot of very talented bronies here on this site, with some amazing fics. So, I have a request to any and all that have the spare time. Since I've missed out so so many good ones, I'd greately appreciate if you all could direct me to some of your top pic's here on this site. Whether it be single fics, or even the authors themselves if they have multiple good ones. I'm also finally sitting down and learning how this site works, so I'm attempting to follow such people that are of interest and favorite their fics.

I would suggest The God Particle by EquZephyr. It is an HiE fic, but an incredible one at that. The story itself is humongous, housing over 200k in terms of word count, and 35 chapters. It is still bring updated, and Equ has estimated that it won't be done until the end of the year. There are incredible twists, and you watch James, over one Equestrian year, go from being a prisoner in Canterlot Castle, to being on Princess Celestia's Royal Council, and possibly beyond in later chapters.

Well, I didn't say they couldn't. I understand that some people may not like the idea of self promotion, usually I don't unless I'm joking around with people and poking fun at myself, but I don't mind it at all. I'm one of those readers that unless the grammar is absolutely terrible, I'll read it so long as I like the story.

And in a few weeks the updated version of Past Sins will arrive. As soon as you see it (can't miss it, it will stay in the recommendation-box for weeks) you have to read it, it is one of the best MLP;FiM fanfic's there is.

One of the best fics around is
My Little Alicorn
Its one of the more recognizable names and one of the most popular fics to date.
It tells the story of Celestia and Luna, expands on the history and setting of Equestria, and delves into the psyche and mentality of the Princesses. It does have the (dark) tag and some of the story does get a little violent, but it is very relevant to the story and not just for shock value.
It's pretty lengthy, but quite epic.
It's great to see another great (albeit rather silly) story from ya.
The magic of My Little Dashie could never be recreated and never outdone
but this is a fine read, and looks to be a serial! so we can look forward to the next installment!
Dont know if this was out before my little dashie but "The party hasn't ended" by butterscotch sundae is a favourite of mine.

Princess Celestia disguises herself as a regular pony so she can mingle around in Ponyville without the regal fanfare and royal treatment like usual.
Plays out like an episode of the show, is quite funny, and a short but rewarding read.
This interesting tome entitled My Little Dashie. Also, Friendship was magic, Room 213, Wayward Courier, Anno Domini, The End of Ponies, and Borderline.
Chrysalis darn it. My Read Later list just broke 100 the other day. This is hardly the time to come across a highlights splurge!

BTW - it might make it easier to recommend you stories if you let us what types of stories you've liked in the past.
Pretty much everything AbsoluteAnonymous has ever written is worth checking out, at least. I personally consider The Games We Play to be the greatest fanfic in existence.
If you don't mind clop/romance I would recommend Xenophilia you can skip over the sex scenes the interesting parts are the conversations comparing the sociological, psychological, and historical differences between ponies and humans while one human tries to start a mature relationship with Rainbow Dash based on trust and communication. Yeah I can't say I've ever seen a story where 2 (or more) characters rather then dancing around the issues to generate drama or comedy just grow up sit down and talk things out. It is world building but not in the usual 'and that's how Equestria was made' style. And as a plus it is very well written.

There's a really great author by the name of EpicGuy, he writes all kinds of fic's and pretty much never does anything bad. You should definitely check him out
As for actually Fanfics... the best one i've read (apart from your My Little Dashie, of course) would have to be From the Mouths of Fillies, which is really good in its own right
Also, if your a fan of Doctor Who crossover's, by far the best author for that is J.A.M, he's currently writing a series of Doctor Who crossover fics which are really well-written and good
I suggest reading anything by the authors Aegis Shield and HeavyMetalCommunist.

Hm, I'm generally too lazy to actually create links... but here's my two worthless American cents, which will most likely be lost in the tide of other excellent suggestions.
Visionary and Heart of a Dragon by Razorbeam. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be amazed!
Also, Anything by shortskirtsandexplosions. I believe the author is completely insane, and his fics have a lot of sad and dark elements, but they're good reads: Background Pony and The End of Ponies. Also, he has a slightly more lighthearted while simultaneously gory fic called "I met a pony in hell (and we kicked ass together)"
And for a few very good laughs, I'd suggest Why am I Pinkie Pie? by Hoopy McGee.
So, in summary: Razorbeam, shortskirtsandexplosions, and Hoopy McGee. They're some of my absolute favorites!
By guess, I'd say shortskirtsandexplosions has the most followers and fans and views, with Razorbeam in second and Hoopy McGee at a close third, but that's just an approximation. Have fun!

In no particular order, I suggest the following, skipping anything that's already been suggested:
The Running of Lyra is an old favorite of mine, short and sweet.
Retired to Equestria is loads of fun.
Rorschach in Equestria. I don't like Watchmen, but this story makes me wish I did. Funny and grim, all at the same time. Rorschach is an ass.
The Brony International Guard and it's sequel The Brony Guard Unlimited are both worth a lot of laughs.
Her Whole Darn Heart is an interesting look at HiE shipping and an enjoyable read. There is a clop scene but it's entirely skippable if that's not your thing.
The Legend Of Star Swirl The Bearded is an entertaining read and a must read if you enjoy conman protagonists.
The Ballad of Echo the Diamond Dog is another good read. Humor, adventure, Daring Do, what more do you need? The sequel, The Legend of Echo the Diamond Dog, is also good.
The End. A good read, interesting and a good bit of character exploration.
The Sweetie Chronicles: Fragments by Wanderer D is a must read.
Double Rainbow by theworstwriter is a mindfuck and a half of time travel shenanigans. If you'd like to really exercise your ability to keep plot and timelines straight, I recommend it.
Human is a exciting and ludicrous romp through Equestria 1000 years in the future. It'll probably make you laugh.
The Best Night Ever is an abolutely excellent piece of writing. Prince Blueblood is a stuck up, arrogant, haughty prick and this fic explores the evolution of his character from said prick into a quite likeble stallion, in a believable and entertaining manner. The best character development I have ever seen. A must read. It's sequel, This Platinum Crown promises to be good as well, though I have not read it yet.
Over the Edge and Through the Wood is the tale of a young man who finds himself in a ruin in a dark an foreboding forest. HiE with a thick language barrier, a protagonist who acts like a real person and three scared little filles lost in the woods. Excellently written and very engaging. I give a very strong recommendation for reading it.
A Dream by totallynotabrony is the hilarious adventures of a man who finds himself in a land of sunshine and rainbows. He thinks he's dreaming, the ponies thinks he crazy. Guaranteed to make you laugh.
This isn't my House! is a fun stroll on the slightly absurd side of the universe. A man and a pony awake to find that parts of their home have switched places. Follow along as they try to accomplish their daily tasks. Utterly enjoyable and humorous.
