Personally, I love tank leg AC's. The defense provided by those monsters is enough to get me through anything. Although I do have a AC that's designed for speed. Named it bumble Bee. It has the one thousand round machine gun on it and a 60% ammo boos for the back part. then I just have the long rage laser blade for the left arm. It's pretty boss.

I've never gone either way when playing AC. . . Especially in the story, a well balanced NEXT is a well prepared NEXT, so I usually used light sniper rifles and blades, complimented with missiles on the shoulders for medium range fights. But that's just me. Also, can't stand tank/quad legs. Ugly things if you ask me, and hardly fitting for an agile machine like a NEXT.

true they may be ugly as hell, but they get the job done well. With my tank legs I usually have two large grenade launchers for the back pieces and the 1,000 round machine gun on the right arm. Then I have a long range laser blade for the left arm. It's freaking unstoppable.

In 4 Answer or 5? In 5 the way to go (used to be) the heavy reverse joints and battle rifles in the hands, with a laser blade and a gatling gun on the back slots.

ahhh, yeah. In 5, there were a pair of heavy RJ legs with crazy booster performance. Was the only way to go back when I actually played.
I've made a heavy support NEXT that I call "Big Boss"... Not the fastest, but one good hit from it, it destroys anything. Now I wanna re-play this game, I curse you...

In five they also had a virtual fortress on tank treads. That thing gave you crazy good armor points. I'm still mad though they took out the SMG's for the AC's. all they had where Gatling guns. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those things, but it just didn't look right to have this little AC that was supposed to be fast lugging around this gigantic multibarreld machine gun.
I remember first getting my 360, and AC4 coming with it. I TOTALLY faved this~
So I updated the story tags after thinking on it for a bit. This story is gonna be all over the place, and I promise that there will be ideas borrowed from other fics, 'cause those ideas are better than mine
. Things like the society set up in "Xenophilia", (Lyra from that one crossed with "Anthropology" I think, Lyra is a boss, get over it 
). Or some ideas from "What's Love Got to do With It?" Those three stories are the bulk of any borrowed ideas, and are definitely all in my top 5 favorite fics that I've ever read. (hint: if you haven't read them, do it. It's worth it.) 
Anyway, as far as the tags go, Adventure would be there also, but alas: it does not fit with the slice of life tag, and there's more slices-o-life than adventure planned. So just keep calm and read on.
Also: I'll be copy/pasting this into the chapter 2 author's notes, so feel free to disregard those if you read this before hand.

I assure you, my good sir, that Fakky has indeed "done his homework". It is my understanding that he has spent many an hour playing Armored Core and is well aware of what the mechs in that universe use in combat. Now, obviously a conventional metal sword would not have the cutting power nor blade strength to cut through solid metal, but this is called "suspension of disbelief" in literature and is used extensively throughout adventure stories and the like. It means that we forgo the logical sense of things and just enjoy ourselves while we watch/read the story,
TL;DR? Katanas are cool; get over it. Consortium sucks. Go Empire.

Indeed. I've been pouring over the wiki the last few days, mostly 'cause I was looking for something like that. A re-write can be expected here soon to correct the piloting/interface screw-ups. I figured it was something like that, but never saw anything else for it.

If you haven't played ACFA yet, you should. Shoulder-Mounted Grenade Launcher & a Shoulder-Mounted Gatling Cannon, everything dies, the end.
And seriously, blowing up bigger-than-battleship Arms Forts is just too much fun. You ever wonder what its like to play hide and seek with 6 flying laser eyes? Well wonder no longer. Sol Dios Cannon ain't got nothing on those bastards.

the overall concept (human dies and goes to equestria) is quite old, but addition of a huge badass robots make this story spicy. i like it.
