Epilogue 2: Honeymoon Shenanigan Part I

Epilogue 2: Honeymoon Shenanigans Part I

“Twilight...Twilight, honey it’s time to get up,” A voice roused Twilight from her slumber. She could feel her curled up self, begin the slow and arduous process of leaving the sweet blissful dream world and into the waking world which could be blissful but unfortunately, you usually had to work for it.

“Mmmmfff….five more minutes mom,” she croaked out as real world sensations began to become more prominent, mostly the occasional rush of air.

“Huh didn’t think you would be the kind to ask, thought you were the early riser type...also I’m not your mother I’m your husband. Now wake up you’ll wanna see this.” the voice called again and this time there was a small nudge to follow it. Slowly but surely Twilight opened her eyes. The first thing to come into her vision was her hooves which she rested her head on and from there the rest slowly became less fuzzy. The next thing was the white dress she was still wearing and the next to it was a hand that lead to the black sleeve of a tuxedo which when she followed it led to the smiling face of her husband, Dan. “Good morning sleepy head. Have a nice nap?” she heard him ask as she yawned and then looked around once again. The blue sky was above him and whistling by and she was surrounded by gold.

“Mmmhm, I did. How long was I out?” She asked as she slowly got to her hooves and began to stretch. As she rose she could see what looked like nothing as far as she could see. But when you were flying in a golden chariot that was what the case was always like. What little wind hit them felt refreshing as she stretched her legs then her neck and finally her wings.

“Well you stayed with me for awhile after take off after the wedding and then you conked out maybe an hour into the flight,” Dan said as he leaned down and planted a kiss on her forehead next to her horn. It took Twilight a minute but then everything started coming back to her. The wedding, the reception. And all of it happened less than a day ago. “So how does it feel...Mrs. Allen?” Dan asked as he reclined a bit more now that Twilight was moving about.

“Oh no I don’t think so mister. You married a Princess of Equestria, that makes you Mr. Sparkle,” Twilight said sticking her nose into the air in a bit of faux mockery.

“Oh please. I don’t sparkle, I burn,” Dan said as he lit his magic, the flame dancing around his hand briefly before he snuffed it out. “Besides we’re on our honeymoon, fun times only. We have plenty of time to figure out who gets called what when we get back,” he told her as he pulled her in for a hug. “Now brace for landing.” he smiled and Twilight had no time to react

“Wha?” was all she could get out before there was a bump and the chariot they were in began to slow dramatically. The cool rush of air slowly dwindled and the heat began to set in as the chariot slowed down to street speeds and the two guards got to rest their tired wings.

“My Prince and Princess, welcome to Zebrica.” Said the first guard

“We’ve arrived right on schedule as the princess requested and are pulling up to the main air transport center of Zebrica located a few miles away from the main capital.” The second one continued. Twilight looked ahead as the got closer to the air dock where several airships were docked.

“You did good gents after this go get a good rest and have some fun, next trip is not for a couple of days so feel free to enjoy,” Dan told the guards who nodded appreciatively.

The slow ride to the dock was nice for Twilight to take in the flat scenery around her. While used to the varied scenery of Equestria she had to admit the sprawling flat horizon in front of her had a strange beauty to it. She stared out into the endless flatlands until a nudge broke her concentration. “Hmm?”

“We’re here at the main dock...and you gotta see this,” Dan said Twilight looked and found that instead of a large group of nobles or the leader of Zebrica there to greet them there was something else, small somethings else.

“Are those...zebra foals? With hoof-crafted signs and banners?” Twilight’s tone was torn between being curious and squeezing since the sight in front of her was definitely adorable. A small group of zebra foals along with their parents were gathered at their gate holding freshly hoof-painted sign and banners welcoming them. Twilight gave a brief wave and the small crowd lit up and began cheering and the newly wed married couple.

“Everyone of those little buggers is getting a hug,” Dan said with a straight face as he started waving.

“Dan I do-”

“Every...One.” Dan interrupted Twilight and hopped out of the chariot. Twilight sighed knowing there was no way to dissuade him and instead broke out the camera, it would make for an interesting story later.

Minutes later after getting their things packed properly in a wedding gift From Time Turner, which let them fit all their things in one bag, Dan and Twilight made their way to the front of the Air Dock where they found an open top carriage waiting for them and Two armored Zebra Guards.

“Princess Twilight and Prince Dan it is an honor to meet you both,” One guard said and bowed and the other mimicked him.

“Thank you both, you don’t have to bow much, D- my husband and I have never been much for formalities. So you two are going to take us to the capital?” Twilight said looking over them and the carriage.

“Yes ma’am, the King and Royal Family are preparing for your arrival at the capital as we speak, they are all very excited to meet both of you.” The second guard spoke up this time

“And it’s the same for us, thanks for the ride too.” Dan thanked the two as he helped Twilight into the carriage and then climbed in himself. “How bout we set off then? Although don’t think you guys need to rush, take a bit of the scenic route if you want.” Dan told the guards who nodded and slowly began to pull the carriage away from the air dock.

After a few minutes of silence where Twilight was able to take in more of the scenery, she spoke. “This is nice,” she said as the only sounds around them were the sound of the wheels along the road and the wind.

“Yeah, it is...I didn’t miss that slip by the way,” Dan said and chuckled when Twilight flinched at his comment. He held a finger to her lips before she could reply though. “Don’t worry about it, I might have done the same thing, it’s probably just gonna take some time for us to get used to it...Wife”

“Watch it or I’m going to make you start calling me ‘Princess’ everywhere we go.” Twilight teased.

“Alright Princess, As you wish,” Dan said as he kept smiling.

“Hey! I get that reference!” Twilight bounced in her seat when she noticed what Dan was doing.

“You’ve slowly been catching up on all my pop culture stuff, I figured sooner or later I wouldn’t be able to stump you,” Dan told her while giving her a quick boop on the nose.

“Um excuse me your highnesses.” one of the guards called back breaking up the banter between the two newlyweds. “There’s something out in the distance I think you two should see.” Twilight and Dan looked and manage to notice the dark clouds that had started to gather out in front of them.

“Looks like a storm,” Dan called to the guards who nodded in return

“Yes, it is! Do you want to go through it?” The other guard replied and then asked.

“Uh what?” both Dan and Twilight asked at the same time.

“One of our traditions is that carrying a newlywed couple through a storm is a great honor and a good omen, it blesses the couple with good luck and blesses the rains which will help us later on when it comes time to grow crops.”

“Oh that’s...nice” Twilight struggled to find the proper words she wanted to use.

“Wait...did you say bless the rains?” Dan asked in a tone Twilight knew all too well.

“Dan?...”

“Drive us straight into it,” Dan told the guards who nodded at his command. Twilight just sighed and smiled as Dan rummaged around the bag looking for something. As they got closer the wind picked up slightly and the sound of a myriad amount of raindrops striking the ground started to grow louder.

“Dan are you sure this is a good idea?” Twilight asked

“Absolutely, who knows when I’ll ever have this chance to do this again!” Dan cheered as his arm continued to search through their bag.

“Get married to a princess and go to visit a foreign nation for your honeymoon?” Twilight asked deadpanned while raising an eyebrow at her husband.

“no, I mean this!” he said finally pulling his arm from the bag and producing his book. He opened it up and the screen flickered on and he began scrolling until he found what he was looking for. With a somewhat dramatic flourish of his finger, he selected whatever he had found and music began to play. The guards turned their heads as the slow rhythmic beat reminded them of their own music but they knew something was different about it as someone began to sing.

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

As the music began to swell the carriage finally hit the storm, rain began to fall onto everyone and Dan stood up and spread his arms out, embracing the storm. “HERE WE GO!” he shouted

It's gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The effect was instantaneous as everyone seemed to get what Dan was doing. Twilight just rolled her eyes while she gave a princess like a giggle while the guards started to laugh whole heartedly and Dan joined in with them as the song kept going

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(Ah, gonna take the time)
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The King of Zebrica stood at the head of the royal welcoming committee at the entrance to his palace. They felt honored that the new royal couple would choose them as the first stop for their honeymoon. What made it even better is that a storm had appeared in between where they arrived and the capital, he hoped the guards had told them about their traditions.

“Are they here yet father?” his daughter asked nudging his leg.

“Not yet sweetie. Just a little more patience, they should be here soon..” he said to her before pausing to look out at the horizon. “Actually I think that’s them now,” he told her as he spotted a slowly growing speck. His daughter whipped her head in the direction her father looked and she too could speck growing bigger and bigger with each passing second. Within a minute she was able to make out the shapes of the guards, Princess Twilight, and the creature that she guessed was Princess Twilight’s new husband. A minute or two after that the carriage came to a stop in front of the palace.

“Ah Princess Twilight and Prince Dan, I am so happy to welcome you to Zebrica.” The king gave a small bow as Dan got out of the carriage first and Helped Twilight step down. Twilight trotted up to the king, smiling at everyone she made eye contact with along the way. Each ruler gave a small bow to each other as a sign of respect.

“And we are grateful for your hospitality and your kindness,”Twilight replied and then noticed behind him a very exuberant little filly waving at her, so she waved back and watch the filly squee with happiness and almost fall over.

“Judging from the fact that you looked soaked I take it the guards told you about our tradition of storms and newlyweds?” The king asked as he saw water still dripping from her mane, and the carriage, and her husband’s clothing.

“Yes, they did. And my husband found the tradition very entertaining.” Twilight said motioning to Dan who was standing next to the guards. He looked to be saying something but stopped when he heard the word “husband” used out loud.

“Your wife says you enjoyed our tradition, Prince Dan, may I ask what your opinion of it was?” The king asked turning to Dan. A small hush fell over the area as everyone looked at Dan expectantly.

“Uh...well…” Dan struggled to come up with words as he small smile began to grow larger and larger till it looked like a manic grin. He looked at the guards who seemed to be in the same position. Suddenly and without warning all three of them fell to the ground laughing. They laughed as loud as they could, finding something funny that everyone else but Twilight seemed to miss.

“You had to be there.” Twilight managed to tell the king before he got a chance to ask. “Let’s let them have their fun and meet us inside, they’re gonna be there for awhile,” Twilight told him and grabbed their bag with her magic and began to walk towards the welcoming committee while leaving her husband behind to laugh till he was out of breath.

She could already tell that this was going to be a great start to the honeymoon...
