Having there be an old connection works well, and the tension between her loyalty and her horniness is good.
Divorce lol. Shining ends up moving on with someone else and cadence ends up depressed for a long time. Shit it would be a crazy story where she ends up dating shadow for a bit, but doesn't work out and realize there was no feelings but just a cheap thrill. So then she tries ANYTHING to win back shining. Even to the point of interfering with his next relationship or so. I feel like that would be a interesting story. I'd be surprised if she got rid of the child after finding out she feels nothing for shadow besides lust. Shining would try to ignore her, but then she'd resort to manipulation and other tactics. Basically a crazy ex who was stupid and selfish acting out of desperation. I'm just being realistic here, stuff like this happen in real life where just comes into play. Then realize what they've done and go loco.
Perhaps a little too tidy at the end. I'm going to join the crowd and say that this shouldn't be the only time they see each other, as you stated that he was there for a week, and Shining is away for a few days. leaving Cadance to find every opportunity to see Shadow again, and again, ad infinitum.
Good story, and you left it ambiguous about her becoming pregnant.
At least this tale didn't involve her cheating on Twilight Velvet with Night Light...as so many stories have done before!

I just realized, Cadence in canon has amnesia about who her parents are doesn't she? This means that any odd or out of place coloration from their pairing could be dismissed as being from her side instead of shining's.
Edit: This means that SHE would KNOW who the daddy is, but shining could think that she forgot the contraceptive spell the day before the ceremony while saying goodbye to eachother. or something like that.
Another idea is her being visibly pregnant at their next tryst. And her telling him its his or something like that.
Idea for a potential follow-up, he starts dating twilight and that's how him and shining armor meet.
Edit: meanwhile twilight is learning from cadence about their past relationship, and it accidentally slips that she cheated just once. Twilight is wondering why her first thought was about getting him to bang celestia or Luna instead of the fact that cadence cheated. Cue her finding out she's a cuckqueen and wanting all the steamy details about how their night went.
