Commerce and labor are the lifeblood of economics, great and small, and today's world in and out of Equestria was no exception: even though bits are standard currency in their native homeland, lighter packages are still possible, especially regarding exchange; however, the concept of honest wages are still alienated for an alarming percentage of individuals, many who have turned to a life of crime and villainy.

Once upon a time, there were a trio of suitcases being pursued by a band of traitors to their nation, whether one world or another; now, one remains and along with it, one survivor, frustrated by an otherwise best laid plan thwarted by unforeseen consequences as is: it wasn't enough for one to be lost in the landmass, now another individual has stumbled across its contents and conspiratorial cutthroats.

Enter a tree stump, stuck in a desert along a horse with a name and an injury in dire need of treatment from the former's perspective: little is know about the latter except for the color of tresses and coat, not it'd done much good so to speak despite breathing freely; either way, as far as they're both concerned, by and large, regarding the scheme, to quote a junkie's words, "he can't keep getting away with this...!"

Any reason as to why...?

this that one of
the characters in yin yang yo ?

It was dark as night but more limited in dimensions as of yet, one that was young and envied by observers as far as it was known; speaking of which, there were at least two of them whom had seemed to be alike in fair dignity as a light was emanating all about: their current location was a mess but otherwise in order, despite the lawlessness tracked in from the outside world of beyond.

so true

even now, the oxygen they’d shared together was threatening to transmutation into something unfit for respiration or aspiration: the latter couldn’t help it for even a second, the solid integuments picking up on whatever dioxide came by from wheresoever.

dangit now i have to put a quarter into the “integuments” jar

“Rest easy, Twist: even though I’d found a way back, I can’t leave you here like this, not when they’re still messing around…” a low and husky voice muttered effortlessly about.

oh so the redhead is Twist! and the other, a tree of some kind? i am having a difficult time following

in this case, all which had mattered was a certain turn of events to unfold out and about the desert, horseless and nameless.

hehe i do like this sentence. i’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name…

A wave of static mesh escaped nearby the ligneous listener as an aged roughing tumbled bark garbled, “come in, dirtbag: I know you have the money; where the hell are you, dammit…‽”

well, i did try my best to follow this, and i wonder if it would help if i’d had any knowledge of the crossover source at all. a fun challenge to try to unpack, and some fun turns of phrase here tho. and glad that Twist is in this. thank you for writing!

How can you be sure if it's true; after all, I never said it was explicitly nighttime: what would be the guarantee all the same as it were?

To be fair, the young male is not like other organics we see on the show or anywhere else: as I'd shown in the title cover, he's a sapient mobile tree stump, hence the differences; speaking of which, have you recalled the term cell wall?

In any case, his name was Dave as I'd told prior and his place in the story is in media res as they'd say: to be honest, I'd been thinking about him having his own story a long time ago but didn't get around to it; as a matter of fact, I was itching to be writing for a different contest about two years ago no less.

Yeah, America, the band, had been on my mind a lot, especially since I'd bought San Andreas prior: as much of a joke as it were in retrospect, it was only 'cause of the Breaking Bad reference I'd thought of; even now, you'd understand why everything seemed to make no sense whatsoever initially as is.

Adding to this, it was just around the time that Cliffhanger was on my mind even before the last: I wrote this to cope with the frustration of how syndication has censored even the nonlethal stuff; get rid the fall fright and the back shot, alright then, but don't remove the cave fight or cliffside torture!
