This was a neat read. I can't wait to see what you work on next

Interesting take on *Dragon Dropped* with this story, I like it! :pinkiehappy:

Still love the original episode though, especially since it closed this loooooong plot point for his crush for Rarity & finally allowing him to more on to greener pastures, plus making him & Rarity better friends at S9 end. (seriously that combo move they did against Chrissy was still awesome, despite the whole Discord/Grogar twist:raritywink: :moustache:)

In a way, this conversation is something that demonstrates one vital thing: It wasn't just Rarity's fault that these two blew up. Every couple goes through these things where one misunderstanding leads to hasty decisions and often times it's that 'one' element that suddenly breaks a relationship, as if suddenly everything they did prior to that one moment doesn't matter. Why these two barely had screen time in that episode for what maybe ten or fifteen minutes if we don't count the commercials? It's one thing if Spike was 'really' not interested in hanging out with Gabby and faked being tired just to be a jerk, but it's another thing that Gabby would be that one woman who jumps to the wrong conclusion about some guy whose been pen pals with for a while before the guy even has a chance to explain (Even if the excuses would've been poor). But just as Gabby has every right to feel terrible for misjudging a very cute guy, in a way this is another instance where Spike is at one of his faults.

From the beginning of this episode, he was suddenly ignoring Rarity as if she was barely even there and he didn't even properly explain this whole situation with Gabby and why it means so much to him. I get that over time he was thinking, 'Rarity hardly pays attention to me no matter what I do, so what difference would it make?' But I do understand where he's coming from, I truly do. He's had this seemingly incurable crush on Rarity despite some obvious setbacks, but now that he's getting mature he recognizes that Rarity will always be seeing other stallions (Even handsome dudes who aren't even ponies) and she's not going to wait around for Spike to be old enough before he starts getting attention. But, on the other hand, these two were still good friends for a while and the least he could've done was maybe ask Rarity if she could come along and join them or maybe ask Gabby if that would be okay despite that crush beforehand. If any of that were to happen, this whole mess would've been avoided but hey! You live and learn I suppose.

Course, that didn't work out for me hell I will not say a word to any of my exes for what they did with me (But that's another story). But props to the fact that Spike and Gabby demonstrate what makes them a rad couple: That they both can admit each other's faults, they can admit whatever they did was wrong and be willing to work together because what they have is more important than something petty as a misunderstanding.

I think the really only fault of the episode was that it was attempting to tackle a complicated idea in the space of a half-hour episode, and just didn't have the time to really cover it in the full depth that it should and probably would've only merited from. Trying to talk it down for the younger audience probably only added to it too. But considering that was something that they couldn't just work around on, I'd say the episode still managed okay for what it was trying to do.

Nonetheless, it is nice to see fics like these that go into a little more depth on points such as this than the episode could've done.

I think you might be going to far into it. Spike had never mentioned losing his crush on Rarity nor did he ever think that Rarity wasn't paying attention to him. Seriously that is really disrespectful to Rarity and Spike. I do agree with everything your first paragraph said though. It was obvious that Gabby jumped to a conclusion. I don't think it has anything to do with Spike starting to date others. That is some very big shipping goggles, (especially since some sparity shippers declared that this episode validated sparity….somehow...). The problem I have is that this episode literally showed that Rarity was almost constantly paying attention to him. Yes they were doing things that she had to do, but she wasn't just ignoring him constantly like that statement made it sound.

Honestly, I hate this episode. It had a lot of moments where Rarity felt out of it for whatever reason. Like her dramatic apology. Re watch every episode and read every IDW comic and you will find that she was never dramatic or overly showy when apologizing. The reason is because she actual was serious and was trying to show the others that she is truly sorry. This episode just didn't sit well with me from the start. What bugged me possibly the most is that this is her last episode. It should have shown how much she had grown as a character instead of how much she has regressed.

You know the moment Spike and Gabby visit the Crystal Empire to see Shining Armor, Cadence and Flurry Heart stuff will come crashing down.

"No, it's not okay!" Gabby continued. "We've been pen pals together, before you even sprouted your wings! We've been friends together for four seasons, ever since I came to Ponyville!

Nice fourth wall break. I love it.

But at the same time you can't just ignore an old friend especially when they are trying to talk with you about something to the point where they try break you up with your other friends just to get some time with you. Even though Rarity has never seen spike as more than her little friend he is still her friend and if he had split his life between the old friends and new ones there would have been less trouble. Rarity might have gotten a little jealous but considering he was ignoring her in favor of Gabby he was a little rude.

It's nice to see Spike actually apologise, because he didn't do that in the episode, something I only realised after reading this story. He should have, though, as his own actions made him a liar: Gabby had good reason to be upset, it's just debatable whether she overreacted or not. Only thing I could've wished for was for Spike's apology to Gabby to be more about, well, Gabby. He was pretty much apologising to Rarity and then using her as an excuse for why Gabby should forgive him, instead of admitting that he stood her up that day.
