> Making Amends > by Phantom-Dragon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > “I’m Sorry.” > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It all went so fast. At first, it began with Gabby bringing a bowl of energizing turnip soup for Spike, on account that he was exhausted from Power Pony Palooza. However, the last thing she expected was to find the young dragon, playing a game of Ogres and Oubliette with Rarity. It wasn’t long before words from a broken heart were said, “SPIKE?! Your scroll said you were too tired to do anything today! But I guess you were too tired to do anything with me...” In response, Spike desperately stammered to save their precious friendship, “N-N-Ni! That’s not true! I can come with you on your rounds right now!” He said, running up to the griffin. “I don’t think so, Spike. Maybe I should do my rounds on my own from now on!” With that, she dropped the canister she had been carrying, before flapping her wings and flew off with a huff, without giving the young dragon a chance to explain. After a couple of depressing hours, in which both dragon and griffin spent the day sulking, missing the company of the other’s, the ringleader behind the wedge of their shattered friendship decided to make amends. Rarity first met Gabby, just as Spike was passing by. With the two together, Rarity was able to reveal her jealous motive to the both of them, to which Gabby snarked, “You apologize a lot.” “I wish I didn't need to,” Rarity sighed guiltily. “but the more time you two spent together, the more I missed my time with Spike, and the more I used every means at my disposal to get it back. I am truly sorry.” Touched by the unicorn’s apology, Spike walked up and asked, “You really missed spending time with me?” “Of course!” Rarity replied wholeheartedly. “I have to say, after not hanging out with you, I understand why. You're kinda awesome!” Gabby screamed excitedly, before toning her voice down to a more sympathetic tone. “And I know what it's like to miss that now, too.” “So, do you think maybe we could start hanging out again?” Spike asked hopefully, to which Gabby smiled. “Absolutely.” She confirmed. “I don't suppose you'd like some company on your rounds right now?” He asked, with a blush on his face, which didn’t go unnoticed. “I sure would!” With a flap of their wings, the two reconciled friends flew away, without hearing another word from Rarity, who could only watch them fly away. For the rest of the day, both Spike and Gabby felt relieved and whole again. Better than they've felt in what felt like a long time since Rarity had broken them up. But although they were back together again, a sense of guilt, regret, and doubt continues to linger in Gabby, which silently nags at the back of her head. Gabby couldn't stop thinking about Rarity, when the fashionista had expressed just how much Spike meant to her. In some ways, Gabby can relate, because as she said before, she thinks Spike is kinda awesome and she knows how it feels to miss hanging out with someone as irreplaceable as Spike. However, it wasn't long before Gabby started recalling the event that lead to their hasty breakup. The young griffin cringed in shame as she recalls the anger, frustrations, and sadness that were all fueled by the bitter heartbreak when she quickly assumed that Spike had walked out on her. To further add injury to her insult, she remembered that she didn't even gave Spike the chance to explain for himself, if not Rarity. Turning to Spike, Gabby softly chirped, "Uh, Spike?" They young dragon turned his attention to the griffin, "Yeah Gabby?" He asked. "Can we talk for a moment?" She asked quietly, while gesturing a wing towards a puff of clouds. "Uh...sure, okay," Spike complied, while unsure of the griffin's troubled tone. He followed Gabby to the cloud where they both took a seat, "So what is it, Gabby? What's up?" "I...I'm sorry, Spike," Gabby apologized. "Sorry? For what?" "I'm sorry for walking out on you like that, when I should've known better," Gabby elaborated. "I didn't gave you a chance to explain why Rarity was with you, when your last letter said you were too tired to do anything. I didn't even bothered listening to you, and I just ended our friendship on the spot, just like that." "Oh," Spike nodded, in understanding. "That's okay, Gabby. It's over–" "No, it's not okay!" Gabby continued. "We've been pen pals together, before you even sprouted your wings! We've been friends together for four seasons, ever since I came to Ponyville! And all it took for me to just broke off our friendship was...was seeing you and Rarity together and having a good time together." "Mmm-hmm," Spike nodded. "I'm so ashamed." "That's fine." "I don't know what I was thinking! I should've known better than to judge you so harshly and so quickly like that, and I'm really sorry, Spike!" Gabby apologized again. "I’m sorry I ever doubted you. Can you ever forgive me?" Walking up to the griffin, putting a comforting claw on her wings, "Of course I forgive you, Gabby," Spike replied sincerely. "And to be fair, I'm the one who should be sorry for all of this. In a way, I'm the one who started all of this, because I haven't exactly been fair to either you or Rarity." "How so?" Gabby asked. "Well, after hearing how much Rarity missed spending time with me, I was both shocked and ashamed, because I didn't think Rarity would miss spending time with me that much," Spike frowned guiltily. "In fact, I didn't think she would miss me at all." "What? How could you say that? I thought you two are friends." "We are!" Spike looked to the side as he sighed. "Though, sometimes, I..." He looked around, making sure it was just him and Gabby. "Can I tell you the something?" "You can tell me anything, Spike," Gabby reassured. Spike walked up to Gabby and whispered in her ears, "I have a crush on Rarity." "You do?" The griffin gasped. "But she's not a dragon." "I know that, but she's beautiful, and she's beautiful to me!" Spike admitted. "She's my diamond in the sky~" He sighed lovingly. "Aw," Gabby cooed. "That's so romantic!" Spike blushed in response, "At first, whenever I was around her, I wanted to just kiss her and ask her to marry me on the spot, and I'll admit, I've done some crazy things to get her to love me," Spike's smile turns to a frown as he looked to the side. "But she never looked my way. I mean, don't take it the wrong way, she did rewarded me with a few kisses on the cheeks and all, but it wasn't enough. Not to mention how she still has her eyes on other handsome stallions and creatures, like Trenderhoof, or even Capper. So, I sort of gave up and tried to move on and... well, you know how that turned out for the three of us." "Really?" Gabby asked, further perplexed. "Because after seeing the way Rarity was crazy about you, with her over-the-top 'apologies', I thought it was the other way around, and that she was crazy for you. The gifts, the Great Gem Crevasse, Power Pony Palooza, everything! And you two looked like you were having a great time together, I almost thought you two were an item." "We did have fun together," Spike admitted. "But... me and Rarity aren't an item. At least, I'm not sure if we are. It's just, when Rarity started asking me out on those trips to the Crystal Mountain and Power Ponypalooza, I don't know, it felt like a part of me wanted to spend time with the pony I was madly in love with, while the other wanted you to come and join us and have fun together." "I would actually love it if Rarity could hang out with us, Spike," Gabby replied. "I don't mind if you had a crush on her, or anything." "I know. And I'm sorry I didn't think about that to begin with," Spike frowned sadly. "So, can you forgive me, Gabby?" "Are you kidding? Of course I can!" Gabby smiled. "Oh, great!" Spike sighed in relief. "Because can I tell you another thing?" Gabby nodded. "Out of all my friends, you're a one in a million. I'd never want to hurt you. And after the way you said you were going to handle your rounds on your own, I was devastated." "Aw, really?" The griffin cooed. "C'mon, is this the face of a dragon who would lie to you?" The young dragon asked rhetorically. With a giggle, Gabby shook her head, "No, you're right. You're not like that," She smiled. "I was such an airhead, wasn't I?" "Yeah, you are," Spike bluntly answered. "But you're my airhead." In response, Gabby couldn't help but blush a shade of pink with her feathers puff up, "Well, I gotta head back to Griffonstone," Gabby began to flap her wings. "You should go see Rarity. She's probably waiting for you." "I will," Spike replied. "And I'll see you tomorrow?" "Definitely!"
