*Spoilers for Season 8 episode 24 & 25 “School Raze”*

An ordinary day takes a turn for the worst when magic begins to disappear all over equestria. According to Princess Celestia, and her old mentor, Starswirl the Bearded, unless they find out what is responsible for this catastrophe in three days.......all magic in their world will vanish into the ether.

Forever.

But thanks to a certain filly who serves as assistant to Princess Twilight in her School, our heroes may have a lead on who is responsible for enticing this insidious curse upon their world. Someone who is already known for his ability to steal magic in order to gain new strength.

The evil centaur, Lord Tirek.

But he’s in Tartarus, isn’t he? At least, that’s what everypony believes, still. And yet, all signs seem to point in HIS direction. As such, the Mane Six find no choice but to venture to the infernal prison, and see for themselves. And if he IS there, perhaps they can obtain answers as to why Equestrian Magic is vanishing. When they DO find him, they may end up finding a dreadful surprise in store for them: one of them being the devious appearance of their originally aged foe.

And in the end, they might find themselves paying a great price for the safety of their world.

Spike, however, didn’t appreciate part of his statement. “Uh..there’s seven of us?”

Tirek raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? I didn’t know pets counted.”

How dare you.

So the representation of Tirek in this story is pretty drastic compared to the one in the show. This one being more devious, brutal and threatening (even when he's behind bars). While I find it interesting that he somewhat bargained with the Mane Six and Spike for freedom, I'm just wondering where it will lead to next. Because if he was quick to betray Discord in his last conquest, well, Cozy Glow will probably go through the same act. But I'm sure Tirek's true plans don't end here, do they?

You could say that. As a huge fan of the Xanatos Gambit, and as one who recognized Tirek’s potential for being a manipulative deceiver, you can be sure things aren’t completely what they seem with him. As i’m sure you’ll find out soon enough.:) Still happy you like the depiction. If there’s one thing I stay consistent with, it’s making him a major asshole. As Spike can attest right now.:D

“If there are no further interruptions, then allow me to make you my official deal: free me from the imprisonment I find myself in, with no intentions of reimprisoning me anywhere, and in return I will not only help you escape from Tartarus........but I will help you dispatch Cozy Glow, and in the aftermath I will make no attempts to kill any of your kind for a large amount of time. The contract will bind us both to our words, and ensure we both follow through on our ends - under pain of death.”

I immediately found a loophole in the contract.

Oh, really? Then please tell me. I want to see if it’s the same idea as me.:)

Dark but a great chapter

Knew it, it is in Tirek's nature to betray his "allies." Seeing how this centaur is a lot more devilish, brutal and cunning, I can't help but be reminded of Samael's voice from Darksiders when reading his lines. It was nice how you gave him a touch of melancholy as well, deep down, even he has feelings, even if they are buried deep underneath violence and horror.

9834511
I'm glad you liked that touch, man. Even though he hates Scorpan dearly for turning against him, he doesn't forget all of the good that once went down between them. Only a touch of humanity to display how even one like Tirek can feel something aside from what he does. Unfortunately, it does not redeem him of his obsession with power, and his deep-driven hate. He keeps the good memories where they belong: the past. He focuses on the now - and now, he is an embodiment of wrath, hate, lust for power, and absolute control. Everyone is only ever a means to an end to one like him. I just added to the cunning he's shown before his semi-downgrade, and played on the devil figure trope.

Though i'm surprised Vernon Welles Samael was the imaginary reading voice you picked.........but now, however, it actually does work for his demeanor, and personality.:D

9834908
Question, will he visit his old home? I mean it’s been over 1000 years and I don’t think it will change do to it being a dark land.

9835485
If his old home still does exist, it is any but now. Just a dusty mote of land in a region so desolate that it makes one wish for death rather than enduring the harshness of such terrain. Plus, it's the place where Tirek left everything he used to be behind. It holds no sentimental value to him, and in turn, he has no reason to return - except maybe one day to wipe it off the maps. All while making his little brother watch it happen before sending him to join his people. Remember: death is only ever a release, and never a true punishment.

9836352
Really? I thought he would do to what Scorpan did to him; send him to the deepest depths of Tartarus, the area where they torture their prisoners I mean if it exists

9838317
You forget that Equestria's Tartarus isn't anything other than an 'inescapable' cave housing numerous individuals like a massive prison. Basically, it IS a prison - except noone is tortured for all eternity inside. Besides, why simply lock his little betrayer of a brother away when he can make him suffer first? Make him watch all that he holds dear die by his own brother's hand, and THEN imprison him in the ruins so that he can suffer from the loss of his home, and kingdom. Tirek has no use for thrones, anyway: power is all that matters in the world, and he ensures everyone knows it. Though it won't stop him from taking control of the weak.:D

Great song for the ending and love that song when I was a kid.

I thought it would be a fitting way to end this short-story.:)

I'm actually rather surprised you made Tirek come back for Cozy Glow. This story certainly stepped up his character when it came to his intelligence, strength and deviousness. Still, I have to wonder how this version of Tirek would interact with Chrysalis. Something tells me there'd be a lot of bickering between the two. Good story, nice take on the characters and you described their actions and expressions perfectly!

Evil will unite, stand together, and bring an end to the era of Harmony. Lord Tirek, and his apprentice would see it done!

There are a lot of ways to bring down the era of Harmony. Power, treachery, chaos, fear. I'd actually like to see who would be willing to join these two in there conquest for power.

9844178
Though I won't say it outright, I might imply there being a platonic "sexual tension" between the two. Both are proud, ruthless, determined individuals who view themselves as undisputed rulers. And alot of it will involve the two actually quarreling like two leaders trying to seize control, and butt heads for it at every turn. Let's just say when I do Season 9, Tirek will NOT be as simplified as he was in the show. He always demonstrated he thought things a little more through than Chrysalis did, and didn't make mistakes like she did. Kind of like Jafar, he's a chess player who improvises his strategies as he goes along. Twilight's Kingdom proved that when he was a credible threat.

I always figured HE could be the true main villain of the series if handled correctly, and I intend to see it through. The S9 tirek role will be going to Storm King, while Tirek will act more as the Starscream of the team - even when going along with the eventual mutinous scheme against Grogar. He doesn't play second best to anyone, and will act far more mature than his cohorts. In fact...........you could say I might end up initiating an even better twist than "The Ending of the End" did (which I will not go into detail about).

As for Lord Tirek's partners in crime......let's just say Grogar will handle that for him. However, I intend for things to go slightly differently than originally. It won't just be tirek, cozy, chrissy, and Sombra we'll see in this. I've got two others in mind for filling in the deserved fifth and sixth slots to oppose the mane six. So many idea in my head right now! I am swimming in inspiration!!!:D:D:D

If Tirek was really that angry at his brother, then why did he act like he really didn't care that Scorpan betrayed him in Twilight's Kingdom Part 2?

9851258
Peg it to him merely being focused on the matter at hand. Plus, I also think he's VERY good at hiding his emotions when he wants to. This Tirek, however, can allow others to feel his emotions on an insane degree that rage comes out as killing intent. Besides, it's not Scorpan turning on him that has him so angry: it's who he believes turned him against TIrek with honeyed words, and false promises. They had a clear set goal 4 thousand years ago (I dub the time each villain is banished based on the seasons they debut), and TIrek believed Scorpan was truly loyal to him to see it through.

Imprisonment changed that, and thus gave him something to hate. As I said, in THIS continuity, he knows how to hide his emotions to better use them to influence others. In THIS instance, however, when talking about his brother, and the only living family he had left, he saw no reason to restrain himself, and wanted to make the useless poniies understand WHY he hates them: they ultimately made Scorpan like them, as they, in his mind, always seem to do with races different to them. And because of this, especially, he hates both ponies......and his own brother, who is officially dead to him for siding with their enemies. For betraying his own flesh-and-blood, to whom family was the most important thing.

He hates them........because they took all he cared for and left him alone while changing his perspective on reality. Like Syndrome, such a betrayal tore him apart, and taught him you can't count on anyone - especially your own family. The only thing he CAN count on is his hate. THAT is something that will never abandon him.

(Also, regarding the show, I kinda have to correct you on that statement, because Tirek DID care about what Scorpan did. He referred to him as weak-minded, and when he betrayed Discord, and the latter brought up the topic of his amulet, TIrek makes it very clear that while his anger is contained, Scorpan was also considered worthless - just like Discord, and the 'gift' he received. He was simply focused on the task at hand to care, and think about someone who is obviously dead to him. You get what I mean?:?)

I just noticed something while I was rereading this lovely story.

her chest-piece cutie mark returned to her.

Chess piece.
