I think those two will get together in the end.
The story reads well and is interesting. However the problem I am having is Twilights deck. Based on this chapter it feels like a mismatch of cards with no real strategy. Facet at least has one while Twilight seems to have union machines, knights, and dark magicians

Every Yugioh protagonist has a Schroedinger's deck. Especially Judai.
I like how this combines story elements from both Duel Monsters & GX. Gonna be fun to read. Also, this first chapter may have added to the list of things that make me wish I knew how to animate.

I'd argue that Judai/Jayden actually has the LEAST mismatched deck. Pretty much the entire first season of GX it was E-HERO with Winged Kuriboh, Flute of Summoning Kuriboh, and Transcendent Wings being the major outliers. In Season 2 it transitioned to a heavier focus on the Neos side of E-HERO, and Neo Spacian support. And in Season 3 onwards it didn't change much from that.
Yusei probably has the second least, as his first season Deck was mainly based around the Synchron Tuners and their corresponding Synchro monsters. I'd say his started becoming more mash-up once the Dark Signers were introduced.
Now the true mismatched Yugioh protag deck belongs to Yugi, by far.
Note: I have not seen Vrains or Arc-V, so I can't judge the main protags of those series.

That's true. Most decks after the original Duel Monsters tried harder to avoid the ASS PULL method of dueling to make things more believable. While it is unlikely that all of the characters can draw exactly what they needed, when they needed it, you could see it was possible. More possible than pulling out some random card that has never appeared before in said deck to allow for victory.
Also, Yugi did start working on making his deck more consistant by the end of the series.

While I am glad Spike gets to be a duelist, its really disappointing he lost his first duel like that, especially infront of everyone like that..
I know he did quite good, but still bummed that he lost anyway.
