I love writing about slice-of-life, complex character emotions, and mental health.

Synopsis updated on: 10/21/20

Granite Rose finally got the opportunity to move out and get his own place. He finally became stable enough to where his parents didn’t need to monitor his schizophrenia anymore. Unfortunately, choosing to live alone comes with an unusual set of consequences.

His hallucination, Thorns, knows how to target Granite better when he’s alone. It is much easier to get Granite to follow his commands when no pony is around to offer support. Feeling lost, Granite seeks help from his best friend Pencil Pouch. She offers her best, but her best can only go so far. In the end, everything depends on what Granite is willing to sacrifice.

Went ahead and read through your story here. The thing that I find most interesting is the manner of which Thorns talks. It reminds me much of a prose, a metaphor, or something of that nature. I am proud that Granite is resisting Thorns here, but he should reach the point where he tells Thorns off when he can't take it anymore. He needs to realize that Thorns cannot control him, only he can decide what Thorns says. If Pencil wants to help him more, she needs to tell him about free will and choice, and that no matter what anyone else says it is up to you. What Granite can also do, is question Thorns, use his logic against him, and combat against him within his mind with the help of his friend's encouragement.

Perhaps then, Thorns will simply disappear.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! :pinkiehappy:
You make some interesting points! While Thorns wouldn’t be able to disappear completely, he can always be combated, even more so with the help of friends.

I look forward to seeing more of it and what will happen in the future!

Really liking this chapter. Its been a while since there was a new one and it delivered quite well. I really enjoy the metaphors and descriptions used in this chapter, it is really fascinating. Pencil and Granite are so cute together. When Granite refuses to do what Thorns wants, he is powerless.

I’m really glad you liked it and I’m glad it was worth the wait!
Yes you’re right, Granite has a lot of trouble standing up to Thorns. Thorns is very intimidating.
