Does Vagrant Story has voice actors in it?

9904322

Sadly no, but its dialogue is portrayed in comic book dialog globe style. That is one of the limitations of a PS1 release--even if it was at the end of the life of the Playstation.:moustache:

I personally think that Ashley Riot has a baritone voice, but I digress.

I invite you to suggest actors, singers, etc., who would be ideal for the characters if you decide to give the game a try.

if he was sane it would easy to predict what he's going to do, a slow descent into insanity is how I see this story since it was caused by the ponies shooting first and asking questions later.

to quote a joke I heard recently 'he should've shot first, the other way around makes the ponies seem like cold-blooded-killers'

9905093
That's an interesting comment you made there, although I am having trouble figuring out the joke that you mention. I blame it on my cancerous blob that once was my funny bone.

Maybe I am to blame for making things too cryptic since I've left hints here and there that point out to things not being as straightforward as they seem. The ponies shooting first, asking questions later? Fear can be a powerful motivator, even more so if the hints that the ponies had at hand were misinterpreted in the context of what they have known to this point.

It is my personal belief that the ponies would've done so in canon if presented with one such as Ash's reputation. Why didn't they do it to Sombra? I left a hint about that.:rainbowwild:

I have tried to keep the ponies as close to canon as possible in terms of characterization with warts and all within the context--which is something that most stories avoid or don't know how to approach: the ripple effect caused by a massive change in the backstory of the setting--which is what Ash's presence is for good and bad.

All the ponies knew at that point was that The Warden was a monster they needed to put down for the sake of their lives and for their nation due to warnings coming from dreams (which can be considered 'canon' due to Celly's warning concerning Tirek as a vision, as well as the other visions that she had).

I like to think of it like a cake made out from: 'accidentally make your own villain' and 'self-fulfilled prophecy' with a sprinkle of 'I let fear do the driving for me, even if the dream/vision stated that the one I'd be calling forth would be a great help in preventing this from happening' and a big heap of 'Ooops, I screwed up. How can I make it up to him when he hates my guts?'.

Ash didn't make things easier back then, as he reacted in the way a repentant immortal killer with a dubious grasp on morals and ethics can. The hints are here and there, and if you don't feel like a detective, feel free to PM me and I can point out to the details that show the evidence.

I appreciate that you took the time to type out what you believe is happening. :pinkiehappy:

To answer your statement fully: You're right, this is basically a downward spiral to insanity/villainhood ... and I intend to make Ash the type of villain that the ponies will have the most difficulty in handling, unlike canon.:trollestia:

no thanks, I can simply reread this along with learn what vagrant story is. Maybe there was something I've missed and with what you've pointed out to try to understand everyone's thinking.

Also that joke was something related to star wars where Han solo shot first and how some fans got mad that it went against his nature. They edited it later in another movie or something to have that bounty hunter shoot first.

Death to the alicorns!

9905555
They edited out Han's first shot? Damn, that's horrible.:raritydespair:

Even as a wee child, I found that scene hilarious. Even more so with his nonchalant attitude after the fact.:pinkiecrazy:

9905632
Iron Ash now counts as one due to metaphysical/metathaumatical bull:yay:.:trollestia:

9905658
I know, isn't he dying already?

9905555
I played the game through emulator a long time ago, and it was worth it - so, so worth it.:raritywink:

Check out a playthrough at youtube, and you'll see how cinematic that game is. From music to the composition, everything is wonderfully crafted.:pinkiehappy:

So yeah, I'm a slut for Vagrant Story.:rainbowlaugh:

9905659
Spoilers, spoilers are everywhere in that question!:pinkiecrazy:

If you wish to spoil thyself:

A little hint in the hunt for hints at what the hell is going on: Check Twilight's dream about the abominations, the vision concerning their connection to Ash and Harmony, and compare it with Ash's dream involving the living statues and the details within that section.:trixieshiftright:

If you feel interested in discussing theories with me about what the heck is going on, feel free to PM me.

Answers may be delayed due to health concerns though, but won't be abandoned.:moustache:

A tip for your hands, wear a pair of wool gloves, it usually helps me.

And I might get back to you about theories when I don't have a headache or am high, and if I remember.

9905686
Fair enough.:moustache:

:rainbowhuh: Gloves? Will have to look into it, perhaps its the solution to my predicament.

Thanks for the suggestion!:pinkiehappy:

9905763
It puts some slight pressure on the hands, and the wool helps keep them warm.

How didn't I see this comment? I wasn't notified!:raritycry:

Rarity isn't much of a fighter, but in the context of the scene she was tossing pieces of rubble at Ash to distract him.

She didn't succeed much in the end, don't you agree?:rainbowlaugh:

9905090
Nah, what strength he had available to even move was coming from the fountain of Dark within the mountain--it going kablooie was what screwed him over. That was the purpose behind the chain of events that I tried to depict. So nope, no Deus ex Machina--no siree!:scootangel: *Whistles innocently while hiding my Diabolo ex Machina mallet beneath the couch*

Otherwise he might have just done Fluttershy in. He was blinded by rage, as that would've been a bad thing for dealing with the coming shitstorm.:trollestia:

Ahh the good old Vargant Story, very good game and story on PS1, at the start it was hard, when you cleared it few times it was steamrolling after, best time spent on the year 2000, also using its soundtrack music for nostalgia.☠

9934790
Agreed, though I discovered it around 2016 - but oh man, it was quite the experience!:pinkiehappy:

Had to use a guide for the weapons and armor forging though - even managed to make the hagane hundred-everything in most weapons before my main PC was killed by a Win10 update gone wrong.

It, alongside Ogre Battle Let Us Cling Together are some of my personal favorites.

I think you took my comments a bit more seriously than I did.

But thank you for the well-thought-out response, and please do keep up the good work.

I thank you for the kind words, and please, do not think that I would reject such a well-typed criticism towards this project of mine.

My offer still stands though, it'd be nice to hear from a fellow fan what he thinks of what I am aiming for regarding said spoiler alert, since it is something that I've only seen done once, by a much better author than myself.

Perhaps I was inspired by him, you know? :rainbowwild:

What is this a crossover with?

11007531
Vagrant Story by Square Enix. :moustache:

These interludes will be used to give an 'insight' into Iron Ash--Ashley Riot after the wringer. Memories of the past, reflections, dreams, anything that can be used to develop him further.

Now the question is: what do you think of his perspective?

From my viewpoint: He isn't a healthy person. For all I know he might not be even fully sane either. I hope that I have conveyed that properly without going into black comedy due to exageration.

Well, I caught up on the story and while there were parts that had me grinding my teeth, I have to say that over all, Well done. As for this current chapter, I think it was done very well. As for your question on his perspective? For what he is, what he has done, and what his actual responsibilities are, I think he has done a phenomenal job. I still think that he is sane. To do what is right, and to protect those under your protection, tarnishes you in a lot of ways. I think that describes him very well. Tarnished but not black or broken. If I were to describe this character in one word, it would be responsible. Responsible in every way that matters.

Is this story gonna be continued?

11582439
As I managed to somewhat get out of the writer's block I had screwing me over for years, I'm currently working on the next chapter--4768 words at the last wordcount--though it is slow-going, as I seem to have forgotten a bit about the voices of the cast at that point in the series.

So, I'm rewatching it.

Slow-paced, that is.

My health isn't what it used to be before 2020 and COVID damaged me thoroughly ... .

Though I do hope to finish the story itself and start publishing once I reach that goal! Now, it all comes to working towards reaching it. :yay:
