Troublesome Beast

I don't know, man. Those weasels were on fire when I got here.

I think you forgot to put an anthro tag the way you typed up the story.

...I-is this what I think it is?!? The refined version of that "Purple Terribadness" as you called it?

Divines bless your kind heart, TB!

7821269 Yep! In all its horrible, horrible inglorious awful prose.

Was Hopper only wounded because the creatures attack on a different realm than the physical? Seems odd to be able to rip them to shreds with ease and yet end up maimed by their attacks. Anyway, interesting trip to the Shadow Realm there, guess that demons do have dreams(well, had)

7821455 The creatures of the Defile are the nightmares of Great Old Ones made tangible, the end of sanity and the ascension of despair. They were attacking his very existence, and while he was able to tear many of them apart, there were more and more again, always.

And then there were the Worse Things, and every time he had to fight one of the Worse Things down, it took more and more out of him.

7821510 Okay, so attacks on the metaphysical plane. Nice. Hax is a pain for bricks.

7821532 For anyone, really. Even Luna didn't want to stick around long.

Good to see you getting back into the swing of things, friend! :pinkiehappy:

7821724 This was all written prior to the crash, I'm afraid, but I'm starting to bring the end of Day 2, Part II together, and Day 3 is fragmented.

7821783 Ah I see. Well, cheers to your healthy recovery.

7821313
And I'm loving it so far! In the Immortal words of Dickens' Oliver Twist:

7823243 BEHOLD!

7821953 There's no recovery from Fibro, just less fatigue.

7823285
It's great, but it seems you have a formatting error. Everything past:

Heat returned. "You have him stable. That's all I need. Luna, hold his mouth open. Hopper, dear, don't fight us."

Has been bolded!

I'm honestly enjoying this fic. You're a wordsmith and the world you've built is intriguing.

... I just wish I knew what the fuck was going on. Is there a previous fic set in the same universe that I could read?

7826767 Thank you! Yes, but the plot:porn ratio is heavily shifted towards the porn side after the first 12 or so chapters and will probably remain that way until the sequel comes out. In short, all of my work except Craved Bird is set in the same universe and roughly around the same time.

In long, Hunting Season is the main fic, with Twilight's Thrones as a prequel, and Shieldmated and Sunset Sandwich as sequels I set in the future of it. Diversion Excursions was a frankly poor idea at creating in-universe documents and putting it up as a "story;" it should have been a blog series. Nurse Appreciation, Orange You Glad, Macromantic, and Harsh, Hyper Life are all sort of vaguely set around the time as Hunting Season, but the closest that they come to involving the story are interactions with relatives of the Six.

Basically, this presumes an anthro Equestria that is slightly more "high fantasy" than even the show, and a lot more earthy. It also resolves to my kinks involving hyper proportions, and I can expand on that if you want at another time. The salient points come out of a small quote from the Journal of the Two Sisters that noted that Celestia and Luna had learned to control their powers from "the alicorns" who are never mentioned again.

Ever. As near as I can tell. So I backposited a theography on (assuming that alicorns are deities, basically, which as people point out isn't 100% supported b the show) that had a single deity for each other sapient race, but whole herds for ponies, the Alicorns. And that furthermore, that ponykind, including alicorn, had a weird quirk of genetics and chromosomes that lead to them having a biological predisposal for a similar social make-up to what we see in the early seasons of FiM, and in non-bachelor horse herds: a lot more females than males. Note that unlike people who don't know what horses actually socialize like, this means that Equestrian history is matriarchal, rather than patriarchal, and has been struggling to deal with equality of the genders from a different point of view.

There have always been significantly fewer numbers of alicorns than other ponies, but what this meant was hundreds, maybe over a thousand, to a hundreds of millions population of ponies (which are a local dominant species but hardly the whole world), rather than... two-ish, three-ish, four-ish like the show. I posit a so-far little detailed Fading Plague that struck the alicorns prior to the First Windigo migration-- not the one that ended up in Equestria, but the one that lead them to the lands that the Windigos chased them out of. That may have been based on fanon, but, eh, I'm substituting a catalcysmic system of history in here and local reality is kinda weird.

The last alicorns as a social unit were a hidden village of females with maybe an occasional male or hermaphrodite that for whatever reason couldn't produce children, and a few scattered family units. The last breeder died not long after his last child was born-- Luna, and the last child before her in centuries was Celestia.

No one knows what happened to the hidden village, or most of the other family units, but the last major alicorn adult prior to Celestia and Luna taking over was completely insane. Not all of Luna's personal issues stem from what she saw when she breached the walls of Castle DeMareana, but they definitely were horrific, and I may slowly reveal them over time.

Celestia and Luna unified the scattered pony tribes on their continent through a series of primarily political/diplomatic and cultural exchanges but occasionally warfare, including punitive expeditions against warlords and bandits that had founded at the peripheries during the second Windigo period, and again after Discord's Reign. Some time after that, Luna succumbed to the blandishments of the Nightmare Entity (who would later ensnare Rarity much more temporarily), and for a long time pre-Cadance, Celestia held onto the reigns of power and the balance of the world all on her own.

Which, incidentally, is one reason she prefers sponsoring heroes and working indirectly: otherwise she has to carry the entire load herself and she doesn't want to go a different kind of crazy from Nightmare Moon.

But even developing the infrastructure for this was a heavy work out, spiritually, mentally, and physically. She's light-years beyond even Luna now, which is why it usually takes either two entities (Nightmare + Luna, Chryssy with Shining's love and the love directed towards Cadance in general) or an acontextual being like Discord to stop her when she directly intervenes. In my world, that also means she has a vastly increased charisma and sex drive. She tends to drive her lovers, or even people who drink her breastmilk (it's a power elixir as well... long story) insane with devotion to her.

One of the reasons she actively discourages religious faith is that the last time one started it was the Mayincatec ponies we see in the Daring Do eps, complete with sapient sacrifice. She was away from the country when it formed, but she still felt responsible, hence the conversation about avoiding her divine side during Day 0. She's got a lot of ground to carry up on.

Anyway, my story mostly follows canon up through S6, modified by this lens and being anthro-- though some things get weirded; the EqGverse is a cyberpunk dystopia and it's Canterlot Non-Profit Educational Corporation-- with the addition that not long after Twilight's ascension, you might have occasionally seen a very large teenager in the background. Usually being shuffled off by the royal guard, but increasingly as "guy who gets bystanders out of the way while the ladies do the heavy lifting."

This is because the ascension was noticed by the Void King and his component/wife the Triune Queen. Theirs is a long, long story that I can go into if you like, but basically, they're extremely powerful entities who require their children to grow up among mortals so as to not go completely amoral/crazy. They had one of roughly the right age, and agreed to let him be fostered in Equestrian society. They sang Shadow Hopper here into the physical reality of a male alicorn and agreed that the Equestrians would have six years after adulthood to see if a suitable marriage or herd could be formed for him to repopulate the race.

The "present" is about ten years after Nightmare Moon's return; Twilight's Thrones is set ... gah, can't remember, one or two years before that, when Twilight takes Hopper and Barb (female spike) on a tour of Equestrian theoretical allies and diplomatic partners, both to shore up support since things have gotten sucky in terms of monster invasions, and to prepare the rest of the world for Twilight being named to increasing importance within the Equestrian government.

(As a side note, while Hopper is the protagonist, he isn't the hero. He's a bodyguard, support, and object of romantic/sexual interest. The tour showed him off, but more as an Equestrian asset/as a bit of an education for him rather than being its purpose).

Anyway, his eighteenth birthday hits as Hunting Season begins. Sunset Sandwich is set between the end of Hunting Season and my only tentatively named sequel, which deals with Fluttershy's romance and a demonic viral outbreak/invasion. This is set significantly after that, when Hopper has won the approval (actually, followed a pre-plan ritual/education plan to make him a good lover within the terms that he will accept and the ladies value, but he's not allowed to know that so he doesn't get lazy) of Twilight, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash (who is PISSED that he got hurt while she was elsewhere), Rarity (and Barb), and Luna. Since I imagine each of those to be a ficlength project, with Rarity and Barb together, this is further in the future by far.

Hunting Season is a lot less expository than it used to be, but a lot of the questions are answered or alluded to there, or in the comments. I can babble at length about anything, if you wish.

Sorry mate, I like it but this is difficult for me to read.

7829566 Sorry to hear that; do you mean formatting, Hopper's disjointed senses during the recovery, or the gore? Or something else?

I felt that!

Faust's peaks! Hopper is laid up, sick, poisoned, and sluggish with a bellyful of milk. Yet still he has strength enough to dent the hide of the model of perfection and glory herself? Goodness gracious me! I... I'll be in my bunk.

7829759 Not dent so much as smoosh a bit. ;) More than a teeny thing like a demon lord throwing a mountain at her, but at about "mm, spank me and pull my tail" levels of fun. ;)

Two things.

Solar Control Ponies

I see what you did there. S.C.P.

But for now, I'll take care of boss mare business, and I will take care of you, Hopper.
Do you really want to go there? Big zebra cock?
How about that?

The spoilered lines are, what appear to be, editing comments left in, again.

7836891 Oh, for the love of... FIMFICTION! -.-;;

What'd you think of Celly's abs move? I'm proud of that.

Given Celestia's uber-ness, did the bad future with Sombra go down the same way here? Or was that just out of the cards entirely?

7837938 Each of the bad futures did happen, if not necessarily 100% as planned. Starlight is very sorry.

I'm not sure 100% how in each case, other than NMM or Chrysalis getting double-whammies. Celestia is the mightiest single entity or aggregate entity in the world, but that doesn't mean she can't be brought down, especially when things go crappy. I suspect, since Starlight was making changes further and further back, a lot more of Celestia's resources had to be doled out for each new threat-- Nightmare Moon, Chrysalis, etc.

Some of them may not have happened, of course; Chrysalis may not have had the opportunity if Twilight's life had fallen apart; Shining might never have married Cadance, for example. However, enough probably did that things went freaking south when Sombra came back. What a lot of people forget is that the first time we meet him in-story, Sombra isn't the same "terrible wizard" who managed to nearly fight off the sisters before being banished. He's an eldritch abomination who can barely speak, let alone plot, but he's hammering at the combined might of Cadance and Shining's power-- which I would rate as comparable to what Chrysalis was doing by eating the love of the latter and the love for the former-- and holding it at a standstill.

If Cadance and Shiny never wed, love as a local divine concept may be crippled. If Celestia had to kill or re-banish her sister, she may be deep in grief as well as personally and resources-wounded. Sombra has apparently either been becoming some Thing, or going over to the Things' sides; the Entropic Defile isn't all slime and erosion. It's conversion, corruption, and stasis held long enough to be brittle.

But it wouldn't have happened exactly as shown because Hopper. That time period was really, really stressing for him; remember, he was 'born' (at age-equivalent of 12) around the time of Twilight's ascension. No ascension, no reason for concept.

Except that time travel is meaningless to his father, the Void King. An entity designed to hunt down and recycle rogue parallel universe-clusters does not get tripped up by some teeny tiny time travel, and his children have high temporal inertia. I haven't decided on the details, primarily to leave things open for consideration, but the world around Hopper was changing, and he wasn't. This was really, really stressful, and he's not an adult until 6 years post S-3, so he's a distressed, moody, powerful teenager. Of course, what may have happened is after the first or second time belch, his mother (who is a part of his father and a separate soul expressed in a threefold variation, all at the same time, Hopper's family is weird) came by and picked him up. And just held him back within the King until everything was over and done with.

Incidentally, Hopper's family is very weird. The older sibling he's closest to, a near older-sister is: (a) a red giant star that burns hotter than a white dwarf, (b) a tall, possibly star-sized, possibly just "bigger than most of you" humanish woman with a fire bikini, fire hair, and fire eyes who surfs on an equally giant lava shark and has the accents of a typical Hawaiian native woman, and (c) the shark she surfs on, all at the same time.

7838641 What about the Flim and Flam future then? How did that happen? They seem pretty unable to do what they did unless they bought out the princesses or hired an assassin to take them, but either seems incredibly unlikely.

7838665 We don't really know what's going on in that one. I'm not going to come down on a definitive, but it could be "Celestia and Sombra mutually kill, and the brothers scam their way into power on the ruins"
