Yeah, same here. It also doesn't help that in a lot of stories, it's an indication that something more sinister is going on. And they don't seem in any hurry to do anything to help his body situation either. I can understand if they need to wait for the initial transformation to finish to avoid complications, but there's not even a snippet of a line mentioning it. And don't tell us that either Twilight or Celestia CAN'T even try to do anything. Twilight has a spell that can change someone's species, gender shouldn't be that big of an issue. If he's really gonna be stuck as a mare, come up with a good explanation as to why.

Have to agree. Given how much less well Gerry is taking the change this time around, and how little s/he's willing to fit in, just rolling over and accepting a forced name change seems... odd.

That, and it seems equally odd that somebody has reached adult age, and never looked up what their name means. Heck, think there was some really missed potential in seeing Twilight and Celestia's reaction to 'Spear Strength.'

Now that? That's a name of somepony raised by gryphons the locals would be freaking out over, and in that light the push to change it would make far more sense.

*Edit: The chapter as a whole was good, though. Really nice seeing such a realistic take on the long odds involved, while still trying to comfort the poor sap uprooted from all they've known and loved.

Meanwhile Applejack started whistling a catchy tune, for no reason at all that might alarm anypony, and certainly not to avoid any uncomfortable subjects. She just really enjoyed expressing herself that way. Her refusal to make eye contact had nothing to do with the whistly tones floating off her pursed lips.

"Ohh no," Pinkie said as the narrative turned to her. "I'm not touching this. Call me when her breakdown's over." Then she pulled open a plot hole and dove out of the scene.

"You're a girl," Rainbow Dash said. "Girls don't have dicks."

Rarity hummed at that, and remarked, "Well, except for dear Fluttershy, that is."

Fluttershy squeaked.

Did I mention I was a little horse now?

Actually, no. You might want to make note of that and take stock of what you are in a bit more detail, just for the benefit of us readers who are imagining you changed into a brown furred body double of Woah Nelly.

Good chapter but Celestia's reaction was a little apathetic. It was more a "well shit.... your turning into a pony? Get used to it!" reaction than an actually "I'm sorry" sort of reaction. But hey, if that was what you where going for good job.

Immediately asks about being sent back, not considering the fact that she'd be a magical, talking, pastel-coloured pony in a non-magical, technological, government conspiracy-laden world.

Also, Celestia walks in and doesn't know what happened despite Twilight sending her a letter. Wat.

Twilight literally says in the show that changing someone's gender is impossible for even herself. My best guess, and what I've read from some fics on the site, is that mares have all three tribal magics in them. That's why they can ascend and why they can give birth to any tribe. Changing from a mare to a stallion removes that compatibility and vice versa, which cannot be done.

On the flip side, changing species does not remove or give that compatibility.

That statement was made before she became an alicorn. And I'm not including personal headcanons in my arguments. In show, Twilight is shown to have a spell that can turn someone into something else using a template. Yes, she once said she couldn't change genders...when she was a unicorn. I find it highly doubtful that with both her magic expertise and new power level, Twilight couldn't modify her species change spell to change genders instead, especially if it still used a template to work off of. And even if she couldn't cast the spell herself, surely Celestia could.

Edit: Ok so on review this fic takes place before her ascension. In that case, the species change spell still probably exists, since Twi gets most of her tricks from books, so that still leaves the option of Celestia casting a modified version of it.
