A shame that its coming to a end. I feel like so much more could be done and we are missing so much more development. I just feel unsatisfied. :(
The subtleties of courtship may allude me - elude
A good story. It definitely gets you thinking.
I hate the outcome in all the right ways. I hate that he seems to be giving up, but at the same time, I accept it. The only way he is going to survive in this world and be remotely happy is to forget everything he was. Gerry was mortally wounded, and Toffee had to finish the job.
He has to accept what Celestia did, but only because she altered his mind. The worst part? He knows it! He knows it, and he can't care for the right reasons. "Angry for not being able to be angry." Sure, Celestia did everything with the best of intentions, but we all know that saying. I believe it was put as "benevolent in all the worst ways." "I will make all my citizens happy, even if that means I have to commit atrocities to do so."
Had Celestia communicated with him first, gotten a read on him, then maybe, maybe, her actions would be more justifiable. Perhaps things would have been different this time. But she saw only one path and took it without serious consideration of other paths.
I feel sorry for Gerry/Toffee because he must accept it. There is little else he can do. He has to give up who and what he was because of another. A twist; if she hadn't done the mind alteration, she may have had the exact same result of the last human. That is what makes me angry the most; he is unable to care for the right reasons.
That's what makes this a good ending. There is no way to make it right. It is "realistic" in a way: no last-minute salvation, no justice, no hesitation on there not being a 'good' ending. We are left sad, mad, and helpless.
Though he did get a huge jab, one that probably hurt Celestia as bad, if not worse. He opened Twilight's eyes and more or less destroyed the relationship between Celestia and Twilight. So while Celestia 'won,' so to speak, she lost as well. Now she has to live with the guilt of her actions since they were unwanted and destructive, and the loss of one she cared for deeply.
THAT makes it a good ending, despite hating the result. Everyone lost.
I like stories like this; humans transformed unwillingly and dealing with the consequences, especially when the consequences are realistic. Even better when there is someone at fault, and that person has to deal with it as well.
This felt right
This story is both thought provoking and horifying. It gives a sense of unease in a way that not many stories provide.
" I don't see why not; I'm friends with Rainbow Dash. And she breaks one of my windows most of the time."
https://m.Tell me I'm wrong, Rainbow Dash fans! Tell me I'm wrong.
Side note: Rainbow Dash is my third favorite among the main six, but still.
