So Celestia has realized what she did was wrong, another surprise. Her admitting that and trying to make amends is one way to not exactly excuse her, but certainly make things better.

Because what they did was wrong, and took Gerry away from everything he knew to bring him to a world he has and knows nothing in, in a body that isn't his. The moral response would be to feel guilty and show some empathy, and try to help them adjust and be themselves if what was done cannot be undone. Instead they didn't seem to really care, and Celestia herself from the start appears antagonistic. Further her so readily having the citizenship papers speaks of this being something she was prepared for. Plus with how ponies lives and culture focus on their Cutie Marks, Celestia telling someone they shoukd just give up and accept being forced to wear a Mark that does not correspond to them woukd be horrifying.

I question why the need for the gala. Twilight is a princess so it should be easy to get a meeting

This story was started pre-season four (yes, really) so the story is set before all of that. Twilight isn't a princess, she still has the library etc.

I'm happy to give you that little nudge! I myself have hopes to one day start writing publishable material. I'm pretty slow going but reading other peoples stories gives me some motivation. Chapter 2 would suggest that she is a unicorn.

What a stupid question, "No, no I don't." I shook my head and like tearing off a bandage, gazed upon the visage of my captor for the first time. It was a horse, a small, purple horse with multi-coloured hair and a little horn poking out of it's head. I briefly wondered if I had suffered a case of major head trauma, and reached out to touch it. I griped the thing's cheeks between my hands, it's fur was soft and most definitely real.
