One night in the Everfree forest, a timid pegasus is cornered by one of the most feared creatures known to exist, a Timberwolf. But in the forest lies a dark power greater than Fluttershy could ever imagine. Powerful enough to even give a Timberwolf reason to fear.

I've been working on a completely separate My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic story for the past year, and as of this blurb I'm about eighty thousand words into it, but it's not ready for publishing. Early on in the writing of that story (March 2011), I decided to write a quicker spinoff story of The Conversion Bureau, which I saw on the Equestria Daily blog. The initial story seemed to get mixed reactions, but regardless of how people felt about the story itself, folks were having fun writing spinoffs. I thought it'd be fun too, so here's what I came up with.

Contains a smattering of bad language and gun-related violence.

Fluttershy loves animals. Her special talent is taking care of them, after all. However, there is a darker side that her friends rarely see. Ever so often, a creature under her care suffers and not even she can fix it. She has grown accustomed to doing what needs to be done in those situations.

Perhaps a little too accustomed. When a tragedy hits close to home for her, she realizes that there are others out there suffering, and she can help them.

She is the Element of Kindness after all.

I often wonder about that day. Was it all worth it? Why did it have to happen? Was it worth all the agony I endured to this day to have those brief years of joy?

When Twilight, a very gifted young unicorn, goes to the Summer-Sun Celebration, she is awed by what she sees. She studies magic through books at first, but then she realizes that she should formalize her education. Unfortunately, the formal education system is a trying experience for a gifted filly.
