But after a run in with her sister, Luna Finally gets her older sister to spill as to why this day makes her so sad, and learns of a secrete about one of Celestia's oldest and dearest friends, and about her sister herself.

Jason has been in Equestria for quite some time and has lived countless lives. Some have been short, others have been rather long. No matter the length, they all share one thing in common. They all end in fire and flames.

He has spent centuries wandering the countryside, gravitating towards events. When whispered words of Nightmare Moon's return reach his ears, his feet take him to Canterlot, where what he encounters leaves himself and many others more than intrigued.

An idea that sparked a story. Immortality is an often used plot device with a Human In Equestria story, and I wanted something different, something new, something... fresh. Thus, the concept of mimicking the phoenix came to life, and from it, this story.

While pet-sitting for Princess Celestia, Fluttershy is tricked into letting a monster most vile escape from Tartarus. Soon afterwards, a curse befalls the Princess of the Night, making her unable to yield for the sun. Rumors quickly spread of Nightmare Moon's return, and that Discord is responsible. To make matters worse, Discord finds that his chaos magic cannot fix the problem, at least not permanently. Despite his efforts, the curse continues to return.

Fearing that this is the work of her greatest mistake as Nightmare Moon, Princess Luna embarks on a quest to discover the truth, set things right, and clear her name. But she will not be traveling alone. Overcome with curiosity himself, the Master of Chaos accompanies her (much to her chagrin), along with the Element of Kindness, a grumpy bunny, and a mischievous phoenix. Many perils will be faced, and many dark secrets will be revealed. But at least with Discord around, the trip will be anything but boring.

A little story of how Philomena and Celestia met.

This story is my entry for the twentieth contest in the Weekly Contests group.

The years go by and by for a phoenix. Never once allowed to take a final rest, a phoenix can see many, many things for many, many years. However, one memory may always stand out.

My story begins where so many others end; with death. None are so familiar with death as I, For I have lived many centuries and died countless times. Untold dozens of lives have ended this same way; a slow decline in health, both physical and mental. This form fades away, my tenuous connection to this world slowly dwindling, like the last glow of a cooling ember. It is here that my tale diverges from the set way of things, for my ember does not simply fade to nothing. Quite the opposite, in fact. With a gout of flame akin to a solar flare, I burn to ash in excruciating pleasure. When the flames subside, I emerge from the ashes as a fledgling.

My name is Philomena.

I am a Phoenix.

And for her, I’d do it all again.

Little did she know, she was destined to become the "Chosen One", blessed by the phoenixes with the power to control the most powerful element known to ponykind, and tasked with the job to unite all of the races of Equestria.

How can she do this? Fortunately, Philomena and the entire phoenix race will be there to guide her.
