After another dull day of practicing, Octavia feel like she need a well-deserved rest. When Lyra invites Octavia to check out a new club that opened in town, the mare politely refuses. But Octavia will soon find out that the body also has its own desires.

Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Scootaloo go on another crusade to get their cutie marks after a failed attempt of gaining a cutie mark in making candy. This time the want to enlist the help of Vinyl Scratch, but also get some unexpected help from Octavia.

Octavia Melody is the most difficult part of Symphony's day. Everypony hangs on her every word, worships the ground she walks on, and generally makes a big fuss over little things even when, in Symphony's expert opinion, she got that 3rd G flat wrong in the second movement.

Thankfully, Symphony has a sister; a very observant sister who's intent on coaxing Symphony's woes from her in the least embarrassing way possible.

No matter how embarrassing the least embarrassing way is.

When Octavia is dragged to one of Canterlot's more respectable nightclubs by some work friends, she finds a whole new world of music that threatens to shatter her pre-existing theories about musical quality. All it takes is one pony, a DJ whose music transcends the barriers of conventional genre classification. Will Octavia take the leap of faith into the unknown world of modern music? And will the mysterious DJ be there to catch her if she falls?

After missing an opportunity to perform in Manehatten, Octavia rides her usual train back to Ponyville in a dark mood. She tries to relax and simply nap or otherwise occupy herself until the train arrives at its destination, but some shady train operators claim that her ticket is invalid, and that Ponyville isn't one of the stops.
Octavia suspects a shakedown, and after being ejected from the train, she waits to defend herself from a possible mugging, but nothing comes. Instead, Octavia finds herself alone on the train platform, struggling to keep herself sane as she waits for the next train.

When Vinyl Scratch gets invited to play at the royal reception, she and Octavia find that the event is no exception to the essential truism of fiction: where main characters go, trouble follows.

Thirteen years after the events of Vinyl Scratch Tapes, Vinyl tries to get the "band" back together. The key word being "try."
