She has always been so stunning, my dear Fleur. Her quiet, polite demeanor and loyal attributes have made her my best yet. Her appearance has always managed to get some jealous stallions to double-take our arrival in the streets... Oh, age has not been kind to me, and I dread to think of when it will hit her. Magic is now more or less commonplace in the world. Now that most anyone can fly, use telekinesis, or have super strength, you'd think superheroes would cease to be a thing, right?

Well, not only has the comics industry still kept chugging along, but those whose quirks are more unique to them than to their "species" may or may not have gotten it into their heads that their newfound gifts could be used for good- or maybe evil.

What's a hero without a nemesis, after all?

Every pony in Equestria knows the names Octavia Philharmonica and Vinyl Scratch. Every musician in Equestria knows and reveres their talent and most semi-jokingly complain that Octavia and Vinyl's relationship should count as a monopoly on musical talent. Very few know their early story, years ago when Octavia had only just left Canterlot Conservatory and Vinyl was... well, being Vinyl.

While other ponies in Twilight's life have something special about them, Twilight is just a regular old unicorn. She certainly isn't special like Princess Cadence. Sure, her foalsitter always tells her she's special, but there is no objective logic behind this reasoning. And the upcoming Summer Sun Celebration might be fun, but it certainly can't help. How could somepony, proving she's the most special pony in all of Equestria, help Twilight find her place in life?

This story is a purely fluffy head-canon to connect the uncertain Twilight seen in the Canterlot Wedding flashback with the one seen in Cutie Mark Chronicles. It is not that serious, but I think it's nice.

If someone doesn't get it, think of Pinkie's hair being used as a cannon. That was the purpose of this story.

Certain aspects of the palace have been stable for a long time, and the longer that time has gone on, the harder they are to shift -- no matter how badly Luna might desire it. But one tapestry is undeniably ugly. It's been ugly for more than a thousand years. And so she's going to do what should have been done centuries ago and simply kick it out.

The desire to sail was in Fancypants' blood. His father spent more time on the ocean than on land and his best memories as a colt were on his father's yacht. With the recent boom of ships able to sail through the air, Fancypants wasted no time in purchasing two or three and taking them on a trip past Equestria's shores.

During one voyage, severe weather strikes, and Fancypants is thrown overboard in a terrible accident. Expecting to drown in the cold waters, he is saved by a rather exotic creature.

But by gum, she is gorgeous...

Fancy Pants' place in Canterlot's social hierarchy gives him certain obligations. One of these is the hosting of a number of balls, dinner parties and so on. Tonight he will be putting on a small, intimate "At Home" affair for just a few guests. Sadly, Jet Set and Upper Crust will be among their number. Before all that, though, Fancy Pants and his faithful butler, Silver Cloud, need to make the final preparations.
