Sunset and Celestia reconciled many months ago, upon the former's return to Canterlot. Despite this, Sunset can't help but feel nervous as today is a special day: Mother's day.

A late Mother's day fic.

The whole school saw Sunset Shimmer's demonic form get hit by the Elements of Harmony, and half a second later she was in a smoking crater in the ground, sobbing and repentant. From Sunset's perspective, her change of heart took a bit more time.

Genre is... not well-suited but to be perfectly honest that's the closest it's gonna get. Think of it as a missing scene.

She thought it would be easy to simply forget the Dazzlings.

However, a run-in with Sonata Dusk brings in another perspective on the whole Battle of the Bands episode, one Sunset had never really stopped to contemplate.

After all, it takes one monster to understand another...

Just one week out from her demonic transformation and subsequent rainbow friendship blast to the face, Sunset Shimmer needs a new leather jacket, as her old one (seen here) was destroyed. Reluctantly, she goes to the closest clothier to her home: the infamously uptight Carousel Boutique. Making matters tougher, she must deal face to face with a girl she badly hurt. Can friendship take root even after three years of hatred and distrust?

This is the prequel story for Sunset's Recovery Arc.

Sunset sits alone in a coffee shop, nervously awaiting her friends' arrival. Despite everything they've been through in the last few months, she can't help but feel like she was making a huge mistake. For what she was about to tell them could make or break their friendship.

Sunset Shimmer knew she was better than the other ponies around her, even if she didn't have her cutie mark yet. She had to be.

She just needed to find a way to prove it.

Celestia knows Sunset and her friends are often at the center of "happenings" around Canterlot High. So when she overhears Sunset talking to her friends on a cell phone, she can't help but listen in. Maybe she'll learn something about what they're doing.

Or maybe she'll be completely lost about what they're doing.

Rarity was sure she'd failed Prim Hemline in creating a suitable window display for Carousel Boutique—only to find the most beautiful of artworks in those same windows the next morning. Even more surprising: Sunset had painted and arranged them.

A most wonderful turn of events, as far as Rarity was concerned—with just one problem.

How did Sunset manage to paint the window displays of a closed boutique overnight?

The last day of school has all but come and gone. Rainbow and the others have left to prepare the holidays with their families, leaving Sunset all by herself. Ready to spend another Christmas alone, Sunset exits CHS only to be greeted by a familiar face. Someone that comes bearing a gift Sunset never thought she'd receive.

In fact, it might just be the most important gift of Sunset's life.

Edit (26/12/2016): In my haste to get this ready by Christmas, I neglected to mention that Warming A Hearth in Another World by Flutterpriest was one of the inspirations behind this tale. I always try to give credits where they're due but this one slipped through the cracks, sorry!

It had seemed like a good idea at the time, until Sunset actually read what Twilight wrote in her letter. She'd already said yes to seeing Celestia again, and she wouldn't go back on her word. As long as she remained convinced that this was a good idea and that it would all end well, she could get through it without a problem.
