All Art Is Quite Useless

When I'm not writing stories, I'm writing essays. My keyboard sees fairly frequent use. University student, high functioning Rainbow Dash enthusiast, and satirical activist.

A mishap involving Vinyl Scratch's latest piece of audio equipment is only the start of a whole heap of problems, ones Vinyl never expected to face, and definitely didn't want to burden her poor roommate with.

Now, with tension running high and all pretense stripped from Vinyl's character, how will she adapt to life being the mare she's always appeared not to be?

Vinyl Scratch has begrudgingly found herself on a quest to find her true self, and to learn what real camaraderie is. Hopefully, she'll have some help along the way. (A few laughs wouldn't go amiss either.)

My first work of fiction, with a newer description, more fitting to where the story has been taken so far.

Newly-together couple Vinyl Scratch and Octavia have just spent the night out on the town. Vinyl blasted their favourite nightclub with major wubbage while Octavia discovered a new drink at the bar. Now Vinyl has to escort home a marefriend more drunk than she's ever been, and in her intoxicated state, Octavia says just a little bit too much.

"In every war, there's an enemy.

But peace demands time and patience. It’s as fragile as a butterfly’s wings and can be broken in a few seconds. When restored, it isn’t stronger. It remains precarious, on a knife edge. The high-wire walker of life.

We don’t fight for the fight. We fight to fortify peace. They want to shake its foundations; they want it to crumble because they find their wealth within chaos. They find a feeling of power within tears and blood. That’s the difference between them and us. It’s not winning that makes us stronger. It’s not losing that makes us weaker. It’s to be able or not to make a difference."

Equestria's main enemy is its environment itself. In the Northernmost city of the continent, Ponyville, winters are months-long and the sun feels like a legend.

The Militia, an official organization composed of highly-trained fighters, roam Equestria looking for offences to punish. As the Captain of Ponyville's Militia, Rainbow Dash has heavy responsibilities weighing on her wings. She has to deal not only with her own duty, but also with friendship, personal ordeals and love.

When a new enemy appears and threatens not only Ponyville, but all Equestria, she is going to be challenged more than she ever has been until then.

Octavia is a high-class pony. Fine alcohol is her wont, and uncouthness her intense chagrin. Such is her surprise to find herself lumbered with an insufferable oaf of a DJ pony. However, sometimes these situations work themselves into a satisfactory ultimatum all the same.

"My name is Lyra Heartstrings, and you will not remember me. You won't even remember this conversation. Just like with everypony else I've ever met, everything I do or say will be forgotten. Every letter I've written will appear blank; every piece of evidence I've left behind will end up missing. I'm stuck here in Ponyville because of the same curse that has made me so forgettable. Still, that doesn't stop me from doing the one thing that I love: making music. If my melodies find their way into your heart, then there is still hope for me. If I can't prove that I exist, I can at least prove that my love for each and every one of you exists. Please, listen to my story, my symphony, for it is me."

A horrible Cataclysm has turned all of Equestria into a Wasteland of barren ash and twilight desolation. The Sun and the Moon have been destroyed. Everypony has died--including Princesses Luna and Celestia. But one pony miraculously survives; she is a lone wanderer, the last of her kind, surrounded by menacing creatures that hate her. She navigates the Wastes in an airship and scavenges off the blighted landscape to keep herself alive.

Then one day she meets an old companion who grants her a gift, the chance to go back in time to the warm and sunny days of Ponyville, where her dead friends live in happiness. How far will the last pony venture into this joyous age of Equestria, even if she fully knows that there is no way to change the horrible fate of everypony she loves?
