This story is a sequel to Changeling

A short something I thought up as a headcanon for Gilda, which may play into a future story I have planned after Changeling.

This takes place directly after Griffon the Brush Off.

Lyra Heartstrings' instrument of choice is an odd one, for a pony, at least. Then again, she had an odd teacher, too. When that teacher's legacy leads to Lyra being summoned before the High Council of the Griffin Empire, a desperate for work Gilda accepts a job as bodyguard for the unicorn, and the two become involved in events far larger than they ever could have imagined.

Donut Joe keeps his store open on Hearth’s Warming Eve. And why not? He doesn’t have anywhere else to be, and neither do the tired, bitter ponies who find their way inside.

But the Eve is young, and strange things lie ahead. Who knows what might happen on a night like tonight?

When Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash came to Griffonstone, they had an immediate yet profound impact on the city. The normally stoic and introverted griffons are now, on the whole, a lot more open and amiable. Not all of them, however, are happy that the ponies, who had only been there for a few hours, could change their lives so quickly, and with such little effort on their part.

One griffon learns (through the keen-yet-jaded eyes of their race) how to interpret "the magic of friendship" in their own, unique way.

Note: This is just a short vignette based off of the episode “The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone,” so expect spoilers. Also, as this is my first story on the site (or any site, for that matter), it's partially being posted to gauge feedback, so criticism is always welcome.

With little other idea, the two griffons have set off for Equestria to seek help. But on the cruise over, Gilda finds herself receiving advice from somebody she wasn't expecting.

She had thought about it often enough, but now that she and Dash are tight again, Gilda decides to let her oldest pal in on a little secret she's been hiding since they met.

Her father is the ruler of the Griffon Empire.

And Gilda is next in line to ascend to the throne.

In the capital city of Griffalia, Gilda leads a luxurious life of royalty—even if she doesn't care or know how good she's got it.

When she's suddenly thrust into an arranged marriage with the leader of another kingdom, she's going to have to learn some of the harder lessons of life, about family, and about herself.

This story was written as a commission for yamgoth, as part of the Las Pegasus Unicon Relief League Auctions. Tagged "Alternate Universe" because Sombra got nuked at the end of Season 3, Episode 2.
