Queen Twilight Sparkle has ruled Equestria for over ten thousand years. Equestria now face a plague, killing everything that breathes; this may be the end of an entire race, if not all life. The queen's student has come to seek advice and help concerning their home's fate.

Discord knew this was coming. He knew. So did Princess Twilight. They knew. They saw it coming a mile away. Yet, they let this happen anyway. Why couldn't they just let things stay the same? Who's the bigger fool here?

Author's Note: Okay! So this is a pretty simple story I pumped out because I was in a depression-fueled journey through immortality and its repercussions after seeing the finale of the show and realizing we've been right about it all since bucking SEASON 3! But whatever, it's fine, we're all fine. Just so you know I did NOT have any proof readers or editors so if you want to point stuff out that I got wrong, I'll happily fix it. Time is running out. A thousand years have passed and Celestia could feel her strength fading. She would need to choose quickly - choose someone who would inherit her power. And who none better than the one she had looked over for the past couple decades? However, she's very sure that Twilight would not like to hear what the ultimate cost of it is.

In the years after Twilight took charge, Discord learns from Fluttershy that the Tree of Harmony regrew into a treehouse of sorts and that it’s haunted by a spirit. Realizing that this was an old “friend”, Discord decides to go visit the treehouse, finally meeting the spirit in person.

Sunny Starscout and her friends have managed to restore magic to Equestria by getting the three pony tribes to unite again. It seems like all is right with the world as far as most ponies are concerned.

But Sunny still wonders what could've caused the bright future Princess Twilight Sparkle had planned for Equestria to fall apart, and how the ponies could've grown to fear and hate each other. And her search for answers yields an unusual result in the form of Princess Twilight herself.

Being brought into an Equestria so different from her own, Twilight is confronted with a horrifying fact: Her legacy has been tainted, defined by the collapse of harmony between ponies after her time. And Sunny will soon learn just what it is that Princess Twilight was trying to do to keep the ponies together.

After defeating the Legion of Doom, everypony thinks that Twilight is ready to take on being the sole ruler of Equestria. When Celestia tells her this, she begins to think about her past and how she was never in charge of her own destiny. After spending some time alone and then with her friends, she realizes that she must make a huge decision, a decision that has so much at stake.

Spike is tired. He's been awake for over a thousand years and now it is finally his turn to sleep, once he is tucked in by Twilight, one last time that is.

“No matter what, we face it together!”

These were the last words heard by the army of creatures as they approached the hilltop, determined in that moment to save the princess and bearers of harmony above all else.

But they were too late.

Thus, Equestria grieves.

“Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two regal sisters who ruled together.” So begins a tale with which we are all familiar; a story about six friends and their adventures, both fantastic and mundane. But what if...

What if Twilight Sparkle didn't earn her royal status by merit, but by revolution? Why would she do it? What could have caused her to turn against her mentor? How would she rule Equestria, now that it is in her hooves? This gives us a brief look into the throne room of the newly-crowned Queen Twilight Sparkle.
