When Misty gave her the modern device called a phone, she thought she'd only use it to occasionally check on her foes, maybe watch some of their make up videos after all evil has to look good, and of course listen to the songs and OH THEY HAVE MERCH... this might be a problem

It was nearly one thousand years ago that Opaline Arcana defeated Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Her plan had succeeded, and the three ponykinds were split, their bonds broken. However, the ordeal left Opaline drained of her magic. If she revealed herself too soon, everything would have been for naught. She had a castle, but she couldn't leave.

While she still had her followers, there was one major issue: She is immortal, and they were not. Thus, she was eventually the only one left, and she required an assistant. Unfortunately, enchantments will only get a pony so far, and wild creatures aren't exactly reliable. While a young unicorn mare named Misty Brightdawn would come to her a few years before she would finally get her chance to return to the public eye, there were hundreds of years where very little happened.

However, about sixty of those years are an exception. Those were the years that she found herself with something she never expected.

A companion. A human companion.

In the Celestial Sea, about ten miles from the shores of Equestria, there lies a small, uninhabited island. On this island, two mysterious mares have a quiet discussion over a game of chess.

Opaline has never been a particularly maternal or nurturing pony, but when she finds an abandoned filly in the woods, she takes the newborn foal under her wing. This is the story of her first full day with her adopted daughter, Misty.

Opaline grew up being bullied and unseen by the royal sisters, whom she tried tirelessly but unsuccessfully to impress; still, Luna showed her more kindness than Celestia ever did.

Alone and friendless, Opaline fled Skyros and found safety in Canterlot, where she stayed until Nightmare Moon’s banishment. After Celestia imprisons Luna in the moon, Opaline confronts the ruler of the sun, forcing Celestia to come to terms with the role she played in Luna’s downfall.

after Misty's monumental failure to acquire enough dragonfire to restore her to her full magical prowess Opaline returns to her bedroom to rage. However not long after she calms down, she thinks back on her the conversation and her time spent with her family when she was a filly. She can't seem to get four words out of her head: you won't be enough.
