Instead of landing in the Badlands after the failed changeling coup in Canterlot, Chrysalis awakes in the Everfree, under the care of a certain zebra. She's in no shape to fly or use magic, so she'll have to tolerate her annoying caretaker... for now. But sooner or later, she'll have to leave to regroup with her subjects, and she can't afford to leave any witnesses breathing.

Ever since the Exiled Ex-queen of the Changelings moved in, Zecora finds herself giving more and more advice to help Chrysalis fit in.

Trixie has been down on her luck since "the incident" in Ponyville about half a year ago. After being shown up by the upstart Twilight Sparkle, who stopped the Ursa Minor attack on Ponyville instead of her, she has become the laughingstock of magicians, and her shows have suffered for it. She has barely made ends meet, and it has not been helped by recent events with her family. Now, on Hearth's Warming Eve, she is back in the blasted village and awaiting when she can strike at the most-hated Twilight Sparkle to exact some petty amount of vengeance.

That is if another societal outcast didn't come along and spoil her plans.

This story is a sequel to The Retribution of Chrysalis

Queen Chrysalis has spent the last few weeks living with Twilight Sparkle, hiding from the public eye and awaiting news of Princess Celestia's changeling relief effort. When Shining Armor discovers a critically injured changeling on the outskirts of Appleloosa, to Chrysalis' infinite delight, her hope for her race's survival is instantly reinvigorated.

But then the Canterlot hospital refuses to properly care for the changeling, leaving Cadance to provide the love he requires. The publicity forces Chrysalis to reveal herself to a fearful populace, driving her into the hooves of a fellow outcast. And perhaps worst of all, the awakened changeling has forsaken his queen. In his eyes, and in those of all of Equestria, Chrysalis must once again redeem herself.

One normal and completely average morning, everything went wrong. Rarity arrives at the Castle of Friendship to pick up Spike for their weekly gem hunting trip, only to find that Spike has locked himself in his room and Twilight is working herself into a frenzy in the library.
