Site Post » Come See Us at Bronycon! [Royal Canterlot Library] · 3:25pm Aug 2nd, 2019
The run-up to Bronycon has been a mad whirlwind of RCL activity! Five curators are attending (two for the first time!), and one of us is an official community guest. Several of us are participating in the Golden Oaks Bookstore (as author, author and publisher). And we're even running a panel!
Come join the Royal Canterlot Library in the Hall of the Moon from 11:15 AM-12:15 PM Saturday, Aug. 3 for "Ponyfic: There Can Be Only One"! We've selected 16 stories from among the fandom's best of the best — a combination of curators' favorites and crowd favorites from our community voting — and are going to introduce them to our audience and pit them against each other in a voting bracket to discover MLP'S BEST FANFIC™. (It's all in good fun; there's no way to be objective about a task this big, but it's an excuse to talk about some really awesome stories.) Join us and help us determine which author takes home the bragging rights!
Here's a sneak preview of our bracket — half of our sixteen contenders:
Eakin's "Hard Reset"
shortskirtsandexplosions' "Background Pony"
Monochromatic's "The Enchanted Library"
Horse Voice's "The Writing on the Wall"
Dromicosuchus's "Mendacity"
GaPJaxie's "Around the World in 81 Days (And Other Problems Caused by Leap Years)"
PatchworkPoltergeist's "The Silver Standard"
GhostOfHeraclitus' "Whom the Princesses Would Destroy…"
Look forward to seeing you there!
And the last thing anyone heard as the remnants of the panel were dragged away was “You don’t understand! We thought the deaths would top out at fifteen!”
What, no Fallout Equestria.
I can say Objectively that its best because it brought us best gun horse

Or more to the point, my fics? Clearly my still needs to be finished brilliance has been slighted

Or our version of 1984 Two Minute of Hate where we begining sobbing and asking ourselves why are we here and why are we doing this before we go back to arguing about who best embodies the term waifu and arguing about best pony tribe (which is stupid, because that battle was settled the second best aforementioned sub species was revealed.)

Wow, didn't realize the Silver Standard was that good...
Everyone knows The Prisoner of Zebra is best pony.
(That nobody read).
I hugely underestimated the number of books I should have sent. Apparently they sold out within an hour of opening.
I'm pulling for Whom The Princess, personally.
5098178 I think that it would say a lot about us, as a fandom, if we collectively decided that the fanfic which best represented our vision of what an uncynical children's cartoon should be was The Horny Little Murder-Unicorn That Could.

Oh come now. Fallout Equestria has that rare Berserk quality where, yes, its dark at times, buts its by no means grim dark. And Littlepip is our equivelant of Lenny from Mice and Men, a loveable idiot who, despite her decided fucks ups, we just can't get mad at.
And of course she was horny, she was a narwhal horse, a narse if you will

Well, that's just my opinion, for what little that's worth. And no, I don't hold Kkat to the Steinback standard, I'm justing making a overblown comparison.
And no, I Berserk and FOE aren't grim dark. When I think grim dark, I think Project Horizons or Dark Eldar.
5098314
Casca would probably disagree with you, but yeah. Different strokes, and all that.
5098325
True. And considering Gut's went through pretty much the same trauma, I don't he'd argue the point much either
Fallout Equestria reminds me of the old post WWIII survivor stories from the 1950s
Farnham’s Freehold (Heinlein) &
Star Man’s Son 2250 AD (Norton, a YA)
are the only 2 that I can think of that are still in print (AFAIK)
5098219
It was a shocking experience.
5098192
I didn't realize it was that well-liked.

> author not realizing their own story is popular
Honestly, this is the biggest mood I've ever seen on this site.
Before seeing this, I had read 6 of these & now I’ve read 7 + working on “Mendacity”
Could you post the titles in the other bracket?
That way, I’ll know if I need to go off & brood about The Injustices of The Universe or not
(Depends on if some of my favorites made the cut or not)
All of them are good, but IDK if I’d call some of them “Best”
5099372 Especially when The Spiderses is objectively the greatest work of fiction this fandom has ever produced, bar none.
5099460
Well, I’ve downloaded it & will read it -someday.
(I’ve only got about 900 stories ahead of it, + some incompletes that I’m following)
I will say that it’s got a LOT of downvotes for “Best”
IMO, this is the best Big Mac story
- MLP: FiM
- Dark
- Slice of Life
With the Apple family deep in debt, Big Mac climbs into the ring once again to save the farm. Now all that’s between him and the two-thousand-bit winner’s purse is some unicorn named Blueblood. Things are about to get ugly.5098325
Well, lets always remember my good Posh...
There's dark, there's Grimdark...
and then there's FATAL

This guy gets it.
they locked me out because the room was full. which one won?
5100453
The Enchanted Library. I believe the runners-up were Hard Reset, The Best Night Ever, and Keepers of Discord. I had never heard of it before, but it must be good to beat such stiff competition.
5100549
It's been on my read later list for a while, and was also in my Never Ending Stories group for a while. It's quite long.
How did Hard Reset not win?! I mean they made a freakin' movie from it with Tom Cruise!
...wait. I may have just answered my own question.
*goes and re-reads Hard Reset and salutes Monochromatic for her win*
I think this was one of the things I wanted to catch at Bronycon. But, because of ridiculously long lines, I missed it (and a lot of other things).
