Dragrace

E

Everypony has imagination to a certain extent. It may not seem like much, but the bookworm actually has the most, she doesn't stick to facts alone. When her friends walk in on her playing a strange game, they want to join her. Of course, there are rules, limitations, and of course, a lot of imagining. Will Twilight be able to handle her friends' attempts to play this game? Or will all efforts fail, and Twilight hide in her closet for the rest of her life?

I have been waiting for a story like this for too long.

I don't know why you wrote this either. Twi actually takes it upon herself to get her closest friend out of the house so she can play a game with all her other friends? And that game is literally racist because part of the fun is killing another sentient species, dragons. Her closest friend is a dragon. And they all seem okay with it? Sorry, but no.

i love D&D but am more into mmorpg

Dang, I was gonna write something like this... Anyway, props. This is almost exactly how my D&D sessions went three years ago. We're a bit better now.
1514686 I don't see how it's racist in any way. Is Pacman racist to ghosts because it kills ghosts?

1514700 The game condones killing dragons. Dragons are a people in Equestria. Spike is a dragon. How many ghosts do you know?

And that still doesn't answer my question of why Twilight didn't want Spike to have any fun.

Pretty good story. Not as good Ponies play DND but still.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to Marshmallow Sundae

1514862 Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the fanfic. It was hilarious.

Everything I said has merit, though.

Lol. So ... because the game of D&D lets us kill humans, it's bad for us as well?
You're over-thinking a fanfiction.
Yes, we probably can come up with a more pony-esque version of D&D, but it's not a big deal. Spike is a special-case dragon. There are probably evil dragons in Equestria (moreso than the jerk-y "I'm gonna kill you ponies" dragons we've seen so far).
And not all campaigns in Dungeons and Dragons are about killing dragons. Sometimes dragons aren't even the antagonists, but the quest-givers and other NPC characters.

:applejackunsure: I'm pretty sure a fanfic like this was already made...

This story

1515189 I'm not as familiar with D&D as I should be, so I guess it's just my ignorance talking. There was no harm intended, I assure you. Your explanation makes perfect sense, thanks for laying it out for me. My main problem now is that this author's version of Twilight doesn't want to have any fun with Spike, and would rather send him off on errands while she plays with friends of the same gender and species. But I guess that's Dragrace's prerogative. 'Nuff said.

Honestly, this sounds like the game that Discord should have played with the Mane Six to corrupt them. MOAR PLEAZE! :pinkiehappy:

1514736 I was about to say, 'Hasn't this been done already?'

1515815
It has been, but I did it based off my first experience playing D&D, it was probably worse than this :fluttershyouch:

I did read it more than a week before writing my own. I enjoyed it, although it seemed to be missing the 'First game where nobody knows what their doing' element. That's why I wrote this, mostly for that element.

Is it just me or is almost every D&D fic abandoned after one or two chapters?

Regardless of fighting dragons in Equestria's D&D vs. fighting humans in the real world's D&D, WotC (and I believe TSR before them) printed a recommended age on the books and boxes. Depending on the publication (and even the language!), the recommended age varied, but it was usually around 12 years old.

If Spike is under the recommended age for Twilight's D&D book(s), she's well within her right as his guardian to disallow him from playing, fighting dragons or not be damned. (On the other hoof... she's having him go out shopping all day all by himself. :twilightoops:)
